We've got quite a few threads on here that deal with Anime in some form or another, so why not have a centralized discussion about it? I'm not saying that the other threads are bad, but they are specialized into a certain topic such as the music from anime. With that in mind, I figure we could have a place where we could all come and discuss our favorites, make suggestions and recommendations, talk about anything upcoming that we might be interested in, etc. I guess I'll start us off. Some of my favorites include a large variety of sci-fi (particularly mecha), as well as some drama. I tend to like all kinds of anime, but sci-fi really hits the spot for me especially if the story is extremely well written. Some favorites off the top of my head - 5 Centimeters Per Second - Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion - Cowboy Bebop - Dragonball Z (Original, not U.S.) - Eve no Jikan - Ghost in the Shell - Gundam 00 - Gundam SEED - Gundam Wing - Howl's Moving Castle - Last Exile - Millennium Actress - Neon Genesis Evangelion - The Place Promised in Our Early Days I also just found out literally as I was writing this post that there will be a sequel to Last Exile which is set to premiere at Anime Expo 2011, so I really can't wait for that. I'm currently in the process of watching Yakitate!! Japan, Noir, and Claymore, all of which come from recommendation from friends. Feel free to take a look at My Anime List to see what i've seen, am watching, planned to watch, etc. Anyone else care to share?

Thanks for the anime list. Funny.. you haven't seen more than half of what I've seen. I'm not a mecha fan.. well.. lemme quantify that.. I don't go LOOKING for it. I'm more into Shonen and Shojo.
-Azumanga Daioh -Bamboo Blade -The Girl who leapt through time (rapidly becoming my favorite anime movie of all time) -Kiki's Delivery Service -Last Exile -Lucky Star -Nana (Anime Series and movie (hated the 2nd movie)) -Ouran High School Host Club -R.O.D. (OVA.. haven't seen TV in complete form but like it so far) -Spirited Away -Tenchi Muyo ((Ova and subsequent Ryo-oki) - I liked the TV series as well but HATED Tenchi in Tokyo and those movies) -Trigun -Witch Hunter Robin
P.S. Last Exile BETTER have Dio in it.. that's the reason why I watched it.. LOL
I'll update this as I remember it.

Let's see, I love mech, shounen, mystery, action, and senin stuff. Lately, though, I haven't watched watched much anime, but I started some new ones that I like from the past few seasons. I've watched:
-Naruto(stopped, read manga only) -Bleach(ditto) -Code Geass(R2 included) -Star Driver -Freezing -IS -Beelzebub -Gosick -Rio: Rainbow Gate -Kore wa Zombie desu ka?(Is this a Zombie? I believe) -Dragon Crisis -The World God Only Knows(started, gonna watch season 2) -Death Note(obviously over, but loved it to...I'm not finishing that) -Eyeshield 21(same) -FMA: Brotherhood -Monster -For those days I feel evil, Higurashi -Bakuman -Gamble Fish -Alive: the Final Evolution -Light Wing -Enigma -Prince of Tennis(and Shin) -Bloody Monday -Kinnikuman -Veritas -ULTIMO
yeah....

Can this be about manga as well? Because I hardly watch anime unless there simply isn't a manga for it (or if the anime adaption is REALLY good)

As far as I see it, they're well within the same realm and I typically find that discussion of one leads to another. And I'm pretty much the exact opposite, I hardly read manga unless it's been recommended to me with high praise =/

I can't stand watching a 24 minute episode when the pacing is all wrong, or I hate one of the voices, or it's simply unappealing to look at. It's really hard for me to watch anime now. Especially when they are from a manga and they take liberties and change the story around. That REALLY gets to me.

Some of my favorite anime of all time.
-Rurouni Kenshin -InuYasha -Shin-Chan -Death Note -Blood+ -FLCL -Eureka Seven -Yu Yu Hakusho -Case Closed -G Gundam -BoBoBo-Bo Bo-BoBo -Dragon Ball (all of them)
I've really grown tired of watching anime that are ongoing (Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, etc). When there's an overlying storyline, I would like them to endsoonerthan later.
Currently the only anime I'm watching is "Welcome to the NHK", which I recently picked up on DVD. I'm 3/24 episodes in so far and I'm really liking what I'm seeing so far. A very funny series so far.

Welcome to NHK is in my top 10 mangas list, and possibly my #1 slice of life manga ever. Currently the only anime I'm watching weekly is Digimon Xros Wars. Though I can't really recommend that. If you hate the other series of digimon you will hate this, and even if you're a fan there's a good chance you'll hate it too because of how different it is =p

Excuse my langauge. ;D Yeah.. it is.. And just of that 17, 9 are from this Anime season I'm caught up with, 1 is from last season but still running I'm caught up with, 1 also started around the time of last season or something but I'm only 3 eps in as of today (and they have 27 now), 4 are from last season and already finished, 1 is older but still running (Almost finished I hear) and I'm pretty behind. And one has been over for years and I still haven't finished it... and it has a sequel.. Currently the only anime I'm watching weekly is Digimon Xros Wars. Though I can't really recommend that. If you hate the other series of digimon you will hate this, and even if you're a fan there's a good chance you'll hate it too because of how different it is =p That's the one I said I'm only 3 eps into and is still running - Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion Seriously though... After all these years how haven't I finished it.. -Code Geass(R2 included) -Star Driver -Freezing -IS -Beelzebub -Gosick -Kore wa Zombie desu ka?(Is this a Zombie? I believe) Stop stealing ones I just implied to watching -The World God Only Knows(started, gonna watch season 2) That one I finished.. At least the first season since season 2 isn't out yet.. -Death Note -Blood+ -FLCL -Eureka Seven Stop stealing from shows I've finished that I'm not even going to start to try to list

I used to be that way, until I realized how crap most animation is. Especially when they are from a manga and they take liberties and change the story around. That REALLY gets to me. I've never really had an issue with anything I've watched, except for some comedy series or some shows with lots of retarded filler. Though the filler comes mostly from some shonen stuff like DBZ, Naruto, etc - which I tend to skip through the filler unless it's got needed story (unlikely). Then again, most of the stuff I watch is animated first then adapted into a manga later. - Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion Seriously though... After all these years how haven't I finished it.. You sir, are missing out on an amazing series. I can watch it over and over and over again, without getting bored.

You sir, are missing out on an amazing series. I can watch it over and over and over again, without getting bored. It's not like I'm horribly behind... OK I am kind of... I'm at episode 20... Of the first one.... But still.. It's not that bad as far as being behind.. It's just everything else I'm watching keeps getting more attention (Mostly the stuff this season and watching the new eps when they come out)

I'm still on the fence about Summer Wars.. I just rented it over the weekend. I mean.. it was visually stunning but it was a bit weird. You can tell who made it though which is not a bad thing.. but I think a lot of people are freaking out about the director as the next Miyazaki or something. I like his stuff.. MUCH prefer the Girl who leapt through time over Summer Wars though. I'm still on the fence if I want to buy it.
