My post in the 26 discussion thread got me to thinking about people who clear the first stage on their first attempt.
(Very obviously) there were a ton of first time, first stage clearers in the early Sasuke. But this number has dwindled enourmously.
From Sasuke 18 on, it seems to me the only people who have cleared on their first attempt are some of the Americans (most notably, Sasuke 26). I think there might have been a couple first timers in maybe Sasuke 21 or 23 but I really don't know.
Can anyone come up with a list of recent competitors who cleared the first stage the first time they attepted Sasuke?
My point is to show that normal "everyday people" just don't have a chance at Sasuke anymore. It either takes a world-class athelete or try after try after try.

I completely forgot about Takamasa in 18. No matter how much you like the difficulty of the first stage, you have to admit that list is both depressing and discouraging. Almost half of that list is composed of Americans, and we all know the hellish trials they had to get through just to reach Sasuke (in other words, not "normal everyday people").

I don't think Paul is a gymnast though.
Also not only is Matsunaga a wrestler, he's an Olympic silver medalist.

No, Paul is a software engineer. The American Gladiator guy (Evan Dollard) runs his own website.

Paul also spends time doing practical (salsa? polka?) dancing, nothing too extreme there, and did clear the first two stages.
