I really liked it. It was deadly and unpredictable a bit like how the Rolling Log was when it was first introduced. I think it will stay and maybe be tweaked to be slighty easier or somehow rotate slower. I really despise decisions like these, making deadly obstacles less deadly (so the people who failed them the previous tournament don't really get redemption by beating an easier version of it) Seriously, what are the designers afraid of when downgrading an obstacle instead of keeping it in its original, unpredictable form? classic example. Brett trying the JS in 20, and then Terek beating it in 22 when they both failed it in 19... WHEN IT WAS WAY HIGHER Because maybe it was too hard to begin with. Jjust because others passed it doesn't make it easy; although in regards to the escargot i think people were caught out. For the JS, however, it was too high.

How hard is too hard?

I think when the luck factor starts becoming a serious factor, thats too high/hard.

I agree, especailly with the rolling escargot. I didn't mind the high js as much because it measured technique and jump strength but its not clear what the RE measures. I think luck plays way too big a role in the RE.

I don't think it's luck. Rewatching the last SASUKE I've come to the realization that almost all of the people who failed the Rolling Escargot make the same fatal mistake:
The right foot.
Once the right foot comes out of the little footholds the entire body is thrown by the momentum downward into the water. It is absolutely KEY to lean with all of your weight on your right foot, because every revolution has you turning toward your right side. Even if you displace your left foot off of the left footholds, the direction of the spin will not affect your bodyweight. However, once you remove that one foot, and the Escargot turns you facing upright, you will most likely get dunked into the murky depths.
Sure, there are exceptions (like Kongu) but for the most part if you watch all of the replays, it all begins with the displacement of the right foot, immediately followed by a fail.

I agree with you but that is exactly what worries me about that obstacle. All the Sasuke obstacles are supposed to measure some form of athleticism, but the RE just measures how well you can keep your right foot shoved between two blocks.

I can't really say you're "wrong" but that's not why most people failed it. Look at their butts. Everyone who failed had their butts sticking waaaaay too far out. You need your weight to go forward onto the RE. If you weight isn't going forward, you will get thrown off this thing in no time. It's the same as rock climbing. You need to keep your weight on the wall so you won't tire yourself out as much. Or if you've ever been on a ferris wheel, if you lean backwards it's hard to hold on while it spins. If you pull yourself closer it doesn't feel as if you'll fly off.

Rather than start a new thread...
Can someone get a really good comparison picture that shows the differences in the Rolling Escargot before and after the change? I want to do write a SASUKEpedia page on it.

Look at the end of the obstacle. It is noticeably raised.

Also besides the angle change, the start of the track is a couple inches sooner and they also doubled the amount of padding at the end, I guess to prevent it from rolling slightly after it stopped (although it still did in the case of some competitors (Like Okuyama)
