Well despite the silly name it looks like it'll be here to stay. Seems like you need the right speed with the right weight balance to stay on that thing.

Combination of unexpected technique and pressure, I think. Lots of people crumbled under pressure this time.

I could not believe my eyes that Kongu failed that thing.

Might want to add (Spoilers to title) if we're gonna discuss ^_^
I was super pissed when Shingo failed it, he was just going too fast! Kanno wasn't much of a surprise since, well, we saw him in a trailer. But when they showed Kongu, I'm pretty sure everyone who was in the chat was completely shocked. (Btw, Wtf was he doing? He had his knees bent as if he was pushing it the whole time!)
And don't even get me started with Mr Octopus, he beat out top competitors xD
Yuuji got lucky when he slipped as he wasn't facing upside down and Nagano had really good form!

The surprise element got them but surely having seen so many competitors fail it they would have taken some more care. It would have been an immense tournament if that thing wasn't in it. Saying that, though, it is a great obstacle.

I could not believe my eyes that Kongu failed that thing. Same here. He didn't have any speed on it and gravity just dumped him when he went upside down. He's one of my faves and was looking to see him take on the UCH.

I'm ecstatic (I'm using that word a lot recently!) for Octopus. Even more impressive than his 19 showing. For some reason, he does best when the course is hardest!
The Rolling Escargot is obviously not impossible, but it's not a cakewalk either. I think the track gets slightly more vertical at the last spin.
I think the problem with most people was not a lack a strength. I think it was that they leaned back to much and simply fell off or slipped. They stuck out their butts too far, so that when they were upside down, they were basically doing a handstand that was over verticle. I think the trick is to try to plaster yourself aganist the "wall" so you're never fully vertical.

The issue is in the feet. The competitors who succeeded it WELL had their feet wedged between the little bars. If they're not positioned there properly when you go upside down, the protrusion and weight of your... bottom forces you outward, completely throwing off balance.

Another thing about it, which I feel lead to a couple others to fail the Jumping Spider, was how dizzy they looked coming off it. Urushihara looked totally out of it when he got off it, I've never seen someone that dizzy from the rolling log.
I would guess the producers are happy. It did the job they wanted it to do. lol.

I wouldnt say for the ones who failed towards the end that they lacked strength or whatever. Its the same thing i think why people fail the rolling log at the very end. Concentration slip. They're thinking about how they need to get to the next obstacle and still have good time. so have a a legit shot at stage 2. They loosed their feet a little to get a good and quick landing and.... bam theyre in the water.

That's interesting that you feel that way, because when I watched 25, it seemed like every competitor who came off the Rolling Log was going to puke. Most of them had to grab on to the platform behind them before attempting the Jump Hang to keep from falling over.

I'm loving this obstacle.
You need to be flexible to complete this. Your legs have to be perfect, to where your butt isn't sticking out. The closer your crotch is to the obstacle, the better chance you have.
Any competitor with their butts sticking out probably failed.

I like it because its a really great idea and it is very difficult. The problem I have with it is the fact that it is way too "out there" for me. Most of the obstacles on the first stage have always tested one skill or another (Ex: Log grip - general strength, Jumping spider - jump and strength, 12 steps - agility and technique etc.) but I feel this obstacle is too miscellaneous, it's tough to train for because it's hard to pinpoint one physical ability that could help someone clear it. Technique? Strength? Flexibility? All three? Who knows? I feel that luck is a big factor in it and obstacles that involve a lot of luck should not be on Sasuke. It is a great obstacle idea wise but it needs improving.

I'm still on the fence.. it's so damn unpredictable.. Isn't that a good thing? I'm more worried about the impact on ratings. Personally I thought this tourney was fine Though the snail (that's what I call it LOL) seemed to be a bit too unpredictable and seemed to be faster in the beginning than in the end. I did hear they had a bunch of tech problems with it. I'd rather someone fail an obstacle outright than introduce too much "luck" in it. I think that's why I'm on the fence. Still.. we have a Sasuke so I should be happy.

The thing also seemed to do an extra 1/4 turn for the last 10 or so competitors.

Well thankfully they can always figure it out.
And hey, at least no one threw up!
