"there is no announcement for Sportsman #1 this year.." Which means none that will tape in 2010 and air in 2011. Which I meant. They could still tape one later this year, they didn't rule that out.

Says the guy who was out of the loop for how long? Anyways, I guess since we were "lucky" enough to get Sasuke 26, I guess I'm not surprised at there being no Sportsman. Still sucks.

Sporstman #1 tournaments have for 20 years been a New Year's special. The only other exceptions were the Genoijin ones (celebrity) and the last one that it was held was way back in 2008 iirc when Wakky won. Given that up until now there has not been a "hiatus" but at least had some "special" in it's place.. I count it for being gone for this year. The last full tournament was taped back in December, 2008 and shown in the New Year 2009 season. The one taped in December, 2009 and shown in January, 2010 was the monster box special that for the first time (iirc) actually substituted the show. Only Ube can help fix my understanding on that since he's been following sportsman for a lot longer.
My understanding of the TBS message is that there is no tournament for the 2011 New Year's season so yes.. there is no Sportsman "this year".

Takeshi's Castle did end in 1994 and no it didn't have any involvement with M9, BUT if I remember correctly wasn't it a TBS show filmed at Midoriyama Studio? I think so, the set looks similar to the one used for SASUKE and KUNOICHI.
