Just because we have some immature kids on the forum, does not mean we should discriminate against them all.
This forum is for all ages, because Sasuke is for all ages. Any one can watch/get into the sport and world of Sasuke, so anyone should get into this forum. It's as simple as that.
This isn't a "Videogame" forum, where we talk about rated M videogames.
This is a television show forum where we talk about a PG rated television show.
SuperSheep, your awesome, but this new rule you added was beyond dumb, it was unnecessary, all because one user is annoying to you. If more users bump posts, than do your job and raise their warning levels. Don't Hilter it up and ban entire groups.

It's written in Proboards ToS: A violation of this can lead to: By joining this site, you agree that you are least 13. By explicitly stating you are not of age, you are a liability to the forum. Simple: We're not mind readers, we can't tell how old someone is based on how they post (at least if it is grammatically correct and coherent). However, explicitly stating that you are breaking proboards' ToS is idiotic and a liability to the forum. www.proboards.com/tos

JP...
As Scnoi stated, this was not "MY" rule, this is Proboards rule. It was agreed upon that we should'nt look the other way on this issue anymore due to a growing number of complaints from the members. Considering the fact that the ones in question are already violating the site's rules by even signing up, I think allowing the ones that are already here to keep their accounts sounds rather kind to me...

I guess I'll start by apologizing to you Supersheep. I shouldn't have been too quick to judge that you made up the rule for your own reasons. So for that I'm sorry.
As for this Proboards rule, i don't understand why it exists, especially since when you register for this site, they LET you choose an age under 13 in the Birthday section. So that's odd.
No other board does this either, phpBB doesn't, and I'm pretty sure Vbulletin doesn't either.
I'm frustrated with the idea that a 10-12 year old will join the site, and will just get banned, and now everyone is going to have to lie about their age.
Another thing I don't understand though is this.
Why is this now a rule? Why does it matter if someone is 18 when they're 15. What "Offense" have they done? And how does it effect the forum in any way?
And about the Proboards rule. Are you really going to take it this seriously?
For example, if someone who's age 17 on his profile hints at being 12, or has youtube videos of him/her looking a lot younger, are you going to ban them?
Are we going to be this paranoid about Proboards? Even after we have multiple underage users, and yet we are still existing?

Are we going to be this paranoid about Proboards? Even after we have multiple underage users, and yet we are still existing? Oh yes, I'm in this too. I can really think of just two reasons: the more personal one (plain tired of dealing with so many at once), and the more serious one (liability). Now when I describe the personal reason, I'm not trying to generalize and if I am, I apologize. But, it seems like we have an influx of members who want to lie about their age, then not have the decency to at least fake the part, and do something stupid like bumping months-2 years old topics and try to play the "Oh sorry, didn't know" game when the rules are in every board and sub-board. I can't speak for the mods, but if I was one, I'd be tired of handling out warning bars and would rather get rid of all of them at once. As for them being a liability, having members younger than the required age can and will be a reason for Proboards to shut down the site because you are breaking the rules to what we all have to agree upon not just creating a forum, but signing up to join one. Especially if they lie and say they're 17-18 when they clearly aren't. And since there hasn't been the case of a member having a growth condition making them look younger while there age says otherwise (Andy Milonakis anyone?), I'd rather make a few kids wait until they are of age to join rather than let them all come in and potentially kill the site for everyone else. That's just the gist of what I think, there are so many situations with bad consequences not just outside the internet but inside as well when kids lie about being older than they say.

JP:
This won't be the easiest rule to enforce of course, however what we are hoping for is that if they read the ToS they will not sign up. If they hadn't read it, they at some point will probably admit their age or post it and we can go from there.
Looking 12 or acting 12 isn't going to be enough, it has to be provable or you admit to it. That will cover us in the event that there is a problem since it's now stated that we will take care of the cases which we know about. What inevitably happens in cases like this is they will use their age as a justification for their actions, which is exactly what a growing number of current members have been complaining about. As for the ones we don't/won't know about, we'll just let it be until it becomes a problem.
As for putting the wrong age on your profile, as stated unless its a serious violation (lieing to be able to register), one of the mods will just fix it. Warnings would only be given to repeat offenders or ones who used it for malacious purposes.

I think this whole thing is rather stupid, honestly.
A rule where our profile ages MUST be correct is pointless. There's just no good reason for it.
The "must be 13 or older" thing is less silly, but still. People will lie and sign up anyway. The problem I have with this rule is that it seems like you're blaming young people for most of the stupidity on the boards. Instead of trying to stop all people within that age group, just warn and ban by stupidity. It's simple.
I also understand the fear about this place getting deleted by Proboards, but seriously, JP nailed it. It won't happen. Not unless this place takes a major turn for the worst. This place isn't even a blip on Proboards' radar, especially considering there's nothing bad (i.e, against their rules) going on. Underage users aren't taken so seriously, especially if it's a peaceful community with, for a most part, a "don't ask don't tell policy".
The rules should be "don't act stupid or you'll get banned, regardless of age".
But that's just my two cents on this matter.

The rules are dont act stupid or you get banned regardless of age,
However, If someone puts 13 in their profile and behaves, chances are there wont be a problem, I of course would NEVER suggest doing this.... However if someone was to follow the advice of my previous sentance and when they turned 13 changed their profile to the right birthday, the rule would no longer be an issue.
Obviously there is no solution that is going to please everyone, so we decided the best thing to do was just follow the rules which ProBoards listed in the ToS.

Apparently you're right, that's a small problem,
I'll update the rule now that this fact has been discovered.

I was 12 when I joined this site. I didn't act like a 5 year old with a computer. I made decnt posts. Now I'm 14. Rules are rules but that doesn't mean someone can't just lie about their age..

Chack makes a good point there, If you dont act like a 5 year old with a computer and run around telling everyone your underage, no one is going to know or care.
Still, by putting it in writing on the rules page it protects the forum should something happen. It does not mean that we're going to start looking for excuses to ban people, that is not what we want at all.

So you took out this from the rules Which is fine enough. I can understand respecting the Proboards rule, and I hope you won't be so restrictive on it. Otherwise, I'll stop bitching for now. If the warning bars doesn't get them to stop, than something is wrong with the warning bars. But I won't go there because we've already discussed all this. As for them being a liability, having members younger than the required age can and will be a reason for Proboards to shut down the site because you are breaking the rules to what we all have to agree upon not just creating a forum, but signing up to join one. Especially if they lie and say they're 17-18 when they clearly aren't. I guess. However, Proboards isn't going to shut down a site because a few kids lied about their age. Honestly, Proboards is a business, what a s***ty way of them to lose part of it.

That's what I said. Proboards won't even notice unless this site becomes huge and takes a massive turn for the worst. A site like this where most of the users are polite and respectable to one another and that causes absolutely no trouble for Proboards won't be deleted for some people lying about their ages.
I liken this to the way the police in my town used to threaten and harass me and my friends for doing tricks at the park. There was absolutely nothing going on, so the cops picked on us. On the other end of the spectrum are New York City cops. They're cool as hell because they have REAL crime to fight. They don't care if you're doing flips off a park bench.
It really does just feel like this is a pointless, pointless rule and when sites start implementing rules like this, things tend to go downhill. It'd be different if this were a terrible problem, but it's not.
Perhaps, instead, there should be a rule that you should always try to act mature, polite and intelligent and follow SMF's and Proboard's rules. This way, annoying members and underage members (who may or may not being annoying) are handled.
For example, if a good member mentions their only 12, we can edit that out and give them a light warning. If an idiot is spamming how young and great he is at Sasuke stuff, we can ban him for being and idiot and underage.
Like... I kinda see the need for this rule a little and I understand how it can be worrying, but it doesn't seem like this rule was really thought out that well. It seems like it was just created and added.

Well, didn't this thread just start off with a bang. For those of you curious, this rule is based off of US Law. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COPPARead and be educated.

Well, didn't this thread just start off with a bang. For those of you curious, this rule is based off of US Law. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COPPARead and be educated. Yeah.. especially this line..: Violations The FTC has brought a number of actions against website operators for failure to comply with COPPA requirements, including actions against Girl's Life, Inc., American Pop Corn Company, Lisa Frank, Inc., and Mrs. Field's Cookies and Hershey Foods. In September 2006, the FTC levied substantial fines on several enterprises for COPPA violations. The website Xanga was fined USD $1 million for COPPA violations, for repeatedly allowing children under 13 to sign up for the service without getting their parent's consent. Similarly, UMG Recordings, Inc. was fined USD $400,000 for COPPA violations in connection with a Web site that promoted the then 13-year-old pop star "Lil' Romeo," and hosted child-oriented games and activities, and Bonzi Software, which offered downloads of an animated figure "BonziBuddy" that provided shopping advice, jokes, and trivia was fined USD $75,000 for COPPA violations.

Wait a second, I am 13 but I lied about my age because I don't trust websites who ask you for your age. I have no idea what age I put. Will I get banned if I said I'm like 30 or something?

Not unless you actually are 30 or something, like some people on these boards.

Well since you are 13, you were fine to sign up without trouble. With the whole lying about your age, what birthday did you put (if you don't remember, go to your profile page and click on "Modify Profile" and look for "Show Age")?
