Something that I've been curious about for a while now regards how people land on the Downhill Jump landing mat.
In Sasuke 18, 19, and 20, everyone simply landed on the mat normally (method #1), i.e. they didn't use the "swing forward and then fall back on to the mat" technique (method #2).
Starting in Sasuke 21 and all the way through Sasuke 24, everyone except Nagano and Takeda landed on the Downhill Jump mat using method #2. These 2 competitors were, IIRC, the only ones that used method #1 to land on the mat in these last 4 Shin-Sasuke competitions. Is there a reason behind this? Why didn't they use the technique that everyone else used? It is supposed to symbolize that they are All-Stars or something like that (despite the fact that Yamamoto used method #2 in Sasuke 23)? I'm very curious about this!
It just seems so random (and even risky in a way after seeing Nagano on it in Sasuke 18) for them to do this for no apparent reason IMO. Perhaps if I ever get a chance to meet them, I'll ask if I run out of other things to say (though that would be pretty unlikely ).
Well i guess they just got used to doing it that way. Thats the pro way to do it . Back then i dont think they knew that method 2 was possible. Maybe they thought it would be like the glider thingy in the first stage (1st obstacle in 18). Why is the topic on Takeda though? lol

That's because they changed the track of the rope itself. 18, 19 and 20 the track stopped just before the mat, 21 on it came out over the mat which means while it's possible just stop it's more "dangerous" that way and just wait for it to stop on it's own. So they didn't want to have their balance messed up so it was best just to wait for it and drop down while it's not going as fast. While before 21 going straight to the mat WAS the whip forwards
Pretty much was Rider said. I'd also think they felt confident enough to let go earlier and gain a couple of seconds, while others didn't. Oh and Yamfriend... thank you for bringing back to my mind the mental picture of Nagano's faceplant on the mat in 18 LOL. That was priceless.
From what Nakata said on his blog.. he didn't injure his hands on the fall to the mat. His hands seized when he grabbed too hard on the rope. It's part of his nerve injury.. when he does something too strenuous or out of the ordinary his hands seize mimicking that of a claw of a crab.. he can't bend his fingers or hang on to anything. How he landed on the mat was due to the fact that his hands already were having problems at the rope... not the other way around.
Well I follow blogs including one of Nakata's (which are HYSTERICAL btw) and one of the huge ones was his take on his Sasuke run and why it will most likely be the last one for a while (this was before we knew he was facing surgery.. again..)
