When I view certain threads with youtube embedded videos(or something similar) , either nothing appears or an ad replaces it.
Anyone know what might be causing this?

I only know of one reason. Kinda depends if the person hosting the videos has "embedded videos" enabled or not on the preferences.

I had that happen on my old computer and on this computer older versions of my browser. it never happens to me anymore. But unfortunately it's a problem on your end, the best thing to do if you're recent on your browser is save everything you're doing and restart your browser.

You could have pop up blocker on, and its blocking it.
Try turning it off, and clear your cookies/cache.

Embedded videos don't count as pop-ups, so I doubt that's the cause.
Can you view other embedded videos fine, XJ-6? On other sites?

Nope, doesn't look like it. I still get the same thing.

Is it possible that you're missing some sort of flash/java/whatever upgrade? It should tell you if you are when you try to watch the videos, but I don't know. Maybe it's lazy. Which browser do you use? A quick search on Google came up with several fixes for IE.

The browser I use is Opera. And this only applies to embedded videos right?(when it's supposed to tell me I need an upgrade to flash/java) Because I can also watch normal videos just fine.

The browser I use is Opera. What version are you using? Because that's what I use and I don't have that problem although I did with older versions.

No. If it were a java/flash issue, no videos would load, embedded or other. We can rule that out.
I would think an upgrade to the latest version would fix any Opera-related problems. Do you have the latest version? If not, are you willing to upgrade?

Hmmmm....I'm not sure, how can I check if I have the latest version? I right clicked the icon and that should show you where it is which says which one it is. The most recent version is Opera 10 which can be downloaded from their website www.opera.com/browser/download/

Or, a simpler way is to go to Help -> About to view the version.
As Rider said, it looks like the latest is v10.10.

This is weird. Even Google doesn't seem to know.
Do you have any other browsers that you can use? This can narrow the problem down and let us know if it's an Opera issue or a total system issue.
If everything works in another browser, but still not in Opera, maybe it's a setting or something? Have embedded videos always failed to load for you in Opera, or is this a recent thing?

I actually tried using Internet Explorer and it seems embedded videos don't work there either. =(

This is good, I think. It tells us the problem isn't with Opera.
Have you searched Google for general embedded video problems?

I actually did but most of them had the "grey box or blue box appear" problem. Then another one was the usual "need to update adobe flash" Then I looked at another one that said I need to "degrade" my flash player? (not sure if I worded that right.)

Somebody removed their flash player and installed Adobe Flash Player 10 instead. Supposedly the new one is buggy, or something.
Care to try?
