Does anyone else think this guy has really good potential if he was to ever beat stage 1 again? I mean his run in 14 was amazing and he is one of my favorite competitors. Too bad his most previous runs have been cut.
What do you guys think?

Shinji got to 1st beat the shin sasuke 1st stage in which he has yet to do so. I think the shin sasuke stage 1 is TONS harder than before.
When i first saw Nagano's victory in 17, i thought it was incredible that anyone can beat the super-tough stage 3. the 1st stage did not seem to trouble Nagano, Takeda & other serious contenders. Rewatching 17 now, i find 17's stage 1 is so much easier compared to 23.
People talk about Nagano, Takeda & Shinji not being as consistent as before just forget that how much tougher stage 1 is now. In addition the shin 1st stage requires a lot stamina. Most of the top competitors look really tired by the time they reached the tarzen rope when previously they seem to cruise.
Shinji is very strong, fast & experienced so i guess ( not sure just guessing ) his recent bad run is due to lack of stamina, just when shin stage 1 really tests your stamina.
Case in point: recently, Nagano, Urushihara, Lee & even the TALL Paul Terek (22) took 2 tries at S. Kabe ( W-Wall ) when they previously need only 1. My guess is that they were too tired by the time they reached it. these guys can probably 1st shot cleared it usually but not at the competition after all the fatigue.

Well here are the Shinji results we think/know from Shin Sasuke.
18 -- Flying Chute, that could have been anything as random as that obstacle can be, he was also definately the 1st to attempt it, making it that much harder.
20 -- Jumping spider, that was one of the worst jumps we've seen, simple as that
21 -- Time out? It's a rumor without any proof, but if its true, its hard to say why. could be number of factors, lack of stamina, trouble on the wall, trouble on the chute, or maybe just went too slow.
So what did we establish here? Well more than you think. It shows he doesn't have a specific weakness or killer obstacle thats always going to get him. I think he has a chance if he keeps coming back and stays in shape, but those are 2 big ifs, plus even if he did, would we ever find out.

supersheep, unfortunately from what i read in this forum, there is very little recent footage of him so it is very hard for us to prove or even analyse from. i am just guessing ( grabbing air ) but from what little footage of him, ( to me at least ) he looks light & nimble & i am impressed by his cliff hanger ( 14 ) - ie. he was very very high up, i believe he could see the top of the ledge. This shows he must have pretty strong upper body strength. Even Kanno was hanging down from shin-cliff ( excuse my english but i think you can guess what i am trying to say ) & Kanno has an incredible upper body. I beleve shinji's upper body strength is comparable to Urushihara, Takeda, hell maybe even Nagano, who knows? Let us hope he can clear stage 1 , we get to see it & put an end to all the speculation.

Sorry to dissaopint you, but hanging from the cliff-hanger doesn't mean you're weak, it's technique.
When I do the cliff-hanger I see the top of the ledge to, and I have very little upper body strength.
If anything it means Shinji has bad technique. (I do to, but it just feels right to do it that way)
But I do agree on him being pretty quick and nimble. He showed that on his stage 1 run in 14.

I too wish that Shinji was shown more often in the more recent tournaments, but alas, he hasn't been doing well enough to be shown in both the eyes of M9 and G4---especially after seeing his runs on Sasuke just a few years ago.

The rumor about 21 I don't believe unlike the one about 18. 18 has a bit of proof that he failed there, which really would have been cool to see. Plus, to me, it looks like he got his clothes wet, making me believe he actually failed an obstacle. 19 -- Someone made mention that Shinji's clothes were try before #79 Koji Yamada's run (he wore #76), thus implying that he may have timed out instead of failing an obstacle. While it is possible he could have made it to the Rope Ladder, more likely, he probably timed out on the wall. Although, we'll never know. (He must of done well, as his pattern of numbers seems to correlate with how well he did in the previous tournament). So, he's most likely done fairly well to almost clearing the First Stage, however, we'll probably never know (unless we can contact him somehow)

He technically could have timed out anywhere, Remember Dante Carver in 21 and how he timed out on the jumping spider (and I'm sure standing on the rails have to be a disqualification but that's a story for another time). For all we know he might have made it to the Flying Chute and jumped to the rope sucessfully but couldn't make it to the net (Similar to Shingo in 21 but without hitting your foot on the water)

Badalight,
1. Happy to know that you 'cliff-hang'. Keep training! I admit I don't cliff-hang so you are probably more qualified than me in this area. So I may be wrong on the upper body strength part. I have weak upper body strength too so i dare not insist that i am right.
2. After careful consideration, I still believe that " Your " technique is actually the better one!Ironically, I think Shinji & you have GOOD Technique not bad. Compared to just "hanging low", the "higher-up" technique should in theory put less stress on the fingers. But of course it is just my 2 cents. Perhaps you should consult other experts for a better opinion. maybe Oti or S_Knife or if you can UNCLI? ( Don't get me wrong, I am sincere in this & NOT patronizing you, hope you do not misunderstand, i think you guys can discuss & share tips )
3. Still, maybe you should just continue with what feels right. Regards

In my personal experience you want to hold yourself up but not so high up your arms are bent and you're looking over top of the ledge right up on it, hanging too low makes it harder and hanging too high makes it harder (although I have alot of Cliffhanger practice so I wouldn't really consider either "hard" I'm just saying which way is easiest), you have to find the right way of doing it, Most competitors do it right and some do hang low yet still pass (Brian and Levi ANC2 Finals?), so I guess it's really a matter of preference.

Eh I think he is having seen the video and not the quality of the pic. Nothing told me he was in the water at any point.
