I picked Shingo, but I'm looking forward to seeing Yamada, too. I want to see both of them beat the course and achieve kanzen seiha!

I know you said 1st choice BUT my 2 cents :- #1- Nagano, i like his overall athleticism & agility. He either makes the obstacles look easy or fail it. His profession probably help his balancing ability in stage 1, his strength in stage 2 & 3. He is humble, easy-gong & does not show an unhealthy obession with sasuke. He has a regular job, trains to get fit, takes part in sasuke & greatly enjoy it. He seems to have great fun all the time & often smiles / laugh off his failures. It is his great attitude & outlook combined with frightening ability. #2- Takeda. 10 years of effort yet he never seems daunted by failures. He has got no hang-ups. In his last sasuke, after his disappointment in stage 3, he picks himself up & cheer on for Nagano. He says his career & family are more important than sasuke & he is right. #3- Okuyama. Even though he was an ex-national sprinter & 1989 Asian 200m champion, he has no airs. I believe ( maybe i am wrong ) he never took part in the olympics ( Koji Ito was the star during his time ). He is perhaps trying to make up for it in sasuke. #4- Takahashi - nice regular guy, small business owner & yet finds the time to train for sasuke. #5- Brian Orosco - nice, humble, steady performance.

I believe that I remember that he has been quoted as saying that sasuke is his olympics. Not sure, but I think it was after his third stage run in 22.

I do believe it was from the first time he went to Sasuke. His glory days were back in the late 1980's and his Worlds where he was trying to qualify for the Olympics was in the early 1990's where Michael Johnson was in his prime. TBS loves doing the whole let's blow this out of proportion deal so they came up with the SASUKE = Olympics thing even though it doesn't seem Okuyama minds But I think they have been saying it as long as he has competed not just Sasuke 22. I'm sure someone can correct me if I'm wrong about that. I'm too lazy to check it out.

I picked Shingo just because he's my favorite and the fact that I'm curious to how long he'll be able to stand that shoulder of his. And also because I want to see if he'll make it further than last time.

harlequinknight, what i meant was that Okuyama most probably never took part in any Olympics. That will be a big regret for any pro athlete like him. I am a track fan & remembered that back then Japan regularly sent Koji Ito & others. Okuyama was a top elite sprinter probably in the top 5 but not the #1 during his era. His finest hour was being Japan's representative in 1991 World but he didn't make it to 1988 or 1992 Olympics. I am guessing he is training for sasuke like he is training for the olympics. Anyway, Arsenette may be right in saying all these could be TBS HYPE! If what she says is true, Okuyama does not seem to mind & play it along with TBS.

KENJIRO ISHIMARU...HEY! how can i forget this guy! he sure kicks a**! personally i think the show should give a higher time limit for seniors over 50. ( maybe an extra 15 seconds ). i recalled this guy was close a few times! anyway, loved the pics he had on his site.

Takeda of course. I'll be rooting for him all the way to the final stage! And when he makes it, let's just say that I'll be waking everybody up in the neighborhood.

Yamamoto.
He's been my favorite since I started watching Sasuke / Ninja Warrior, and that's not likely to change any time soon. Though, I still want to see both Yamamoto and Takeda make it to the final stage sometime soon.

Although I said Takeda earlier, I'm also really interested in seeing Bunpei come back. He's gotta redeem himself after going out on the downhill jump at 21.
