There's been a lot of talk about 25 being the last tournament. Where is this idea coming from?

GAH, I meant 24. With all the 24 talk, I keep on thinking the most recent one was 24. I meant 24.

no no, 24 is being said as the last, because of the huge fest that M9 is putting on.

It's a rumor though and not fact. I remember mentioning this way back in Sasuke 22 if the ratings were not going to be high. It's a constant reminder about how important it is to be relevant in Japanese ratings for TBS to continue airing Sasuke. When 24 was announced so quickly after 23 (especially since Nagano was so close to winning) the idea was thought by a lot of us in the USA that this may be the last one due to the seemingly quick nature that it came about. Sorta like "they want him to win and he was in shape so quickly do another tournament and make it easier so he wins".. sorta thing.. especially with Kunoichi being so utterly easy they damn nearly had 3 winners.

That being said it's still a rumor and it's best to just keep it as that rather than post everywhere that it's the last one. We don't know that for sure. Things like this keep growing beyond a life of it's own.

Quite a few things were brought to my attention by Japanese fans.

1. Specials during New Years Day are designed to be long. During the holidays most people are stuck in families houses bored out of their minds so there's a lot of programming to keep them busy while they fulfill family tradition of spending time with them during this holiday. That also includes flipping channels for hours on end to see stuff on TV. It's rare that any one show will have a lot of ratings because of the channel flipping so the thought was to show the event in hopes more people stay with it because it's so familiar.

2. New Year's day is almost guaranteed to have new people watching when they are flipping channels and it is considered a honorable if not coveted day to have any programing. Although maybe not having HUGE ratings (people watching the whole thing in one sitting) it does provide a larger audience watching at some point thus creating new fans since they are at home stuck watching TV with nothing else to do.

3. M9 is opening a new Muscle Park in Hokkaido. Considering that Sasuke is one of the main reasons why the one in Odaiba, Tokyo was created.. it woud be silly to open up another one in a country if there was no show going on to help promote the new park.

4. M9 bothered putting a brand new website. Although many can argue that it's a memorial to a show and it serves as archive, M9 is very reluctant to waste money on such a sentimental gesture. No other show on their lineup has had such treatment and they are not in the financial position to blow money on a website like this for one show (Sasuke 24). It could be argued that they are trying to drum up hype for the show by showing it's vast history and provide another avenue to promote Sasuke ONLY related events and news without clogging up the M9 website.

5. Sasuke is becoming very popular with overseas markets (some as new as only a few months) and it is expected that they will branch out to new markets with new deals TBS are doing in the background. Given the money they can receive from licensing (i.e. ANW) it is conceivable that they can keep the show running with this new income even if the ratings themselves are not as high as they originally were during the Kane Kosugi era.

Those were some of the points told to me as pointing that Sasuke 24 is not the last one. I still worry but try my best to not post in every single post that it's the last one. Given this new information I am a bit more hopeful.

I am Puerto Rican so I tend to go very very emotional.. LOL But when you look at it logically it does help calm that emotional pang every now and then.

When I first heard the news of a December (now January) Sasuke, I thought it was solely because of the near victory in 23.

Hokkaido is a prefecture of Japan, not a separate country o.0

According to a documentary that may or may not have aired earlier this year, there is a chance that TBS plans to end the show at the number 24. The documentary didn't state it explicitly though as it was about Ushio Higuchi and his travels.

Very few people know that before he started up SASUKE Higuchi traveled to South America to learn about obstacle courses. In 1996, archaeologists found evidence that the ancient Maya had been using obstacle courses from almost the beginning of their civilization, right up until the Spanish conquest of the Yucatan Peninsula.

The obstacle courses were actually a trial for survival among Mayan prisoners of war. Like most South American cultures at the time, the Maya were strong believers in the power of human blood and practiced human sacrifice. The obstacle courses (known as tzehchzchels) were laden with spikes, traps, and other pitfalls and were the prisoners' last chance for survival. Failure meant death. Although the Japanese phrase "Kanzenseiha" translates into victory in English, in ancient Mayan it actually means "he who gets to keep his heart."

During the documentary, TBS reporters learned that prior to the Spanish conquest, there had been 5100 obstacle course competitions held by the Mayas. It is believed that when the number reaches 5125 the world will come to an end. As Higuchi had taken his ideas directly from the Mayan codices he inadvertently (or not) revived the numbering. When historians noticed certain signs of the Mayan apocalypse had occurred they contacted TBS and warned them that if they continued on with the show, they could cause the end of all life on the planet.

That's pretty damn interesting of a read. (especially an odd coincidence that Japanese word for "Perfect Completion" (or something like that) actually means something in Mayan and is used like that.

Although that numbers thing can't be exactly true that Sasuke 24 would set the counter to 5124, If that was the case wouldn't Kunoichi count too? and not to mention the 3 main Viking. which 5100 + 24 + 8 + 3 would set it at 5135 and we're still here.
Although if he puts so much belief in a connection between the Ancient Mayans and Sasuke and 24 really is the end would that mean late 2012 we'd have Sasuke 25? (OK, bad joke, Doesn't the end of the calendar mean a new beginning and not the end of it all?)

Not the end of the world-- the end of a cycle of time. 2012 is the end of the 13th cycle, and there are at least 7 more to go.
