Why does G4 pronounce his name as Yasushi Yamada? I've always wondered that....

b/c that is what he was called in his first tournament and also to avoid confusion with Katsumi.

The Kanji can be misinterpreted as Yasushi but that's a rarely used variation on the name. His name is Koji. As for getting confused with Yamada Katsumi.. they changed his first name... not his last... There are several Yamamoto's in tournaments and no one changed their name for that..

They write their names in Kanji.. their last names pop up and another kanji for their first name pops up.. nowhere is it written in English.. so why would there be a mix up? I think you guys came up with the wrong excuse. Yasushi was a valid if not rarely used Kanji translation.. only G4 screwed it up.. they never used Yasushi in Sasuke for the TBS/M9 version. 山田 = Yamada 克己 = Katsumi 康司 = Koji LOL I just checked the wiki to see about his name and apparently the G4 version said Koji during the Sasuke 12 broadcast

Here is something I found once.
Take the kanjis of his name and ask google to translte from Jap. to Eng. and you get Yasushi Yamada. As it it translate from Chin. to Eng. and you get Yamada Koji.
Maybe it was a google disaster,

Watch the g4 broadcast of 12, in a fast forward after a commercial they said "Koji Yamada", they still said Yasushi the rest of the tournament though... So to sum it up.. rapidshare.com/files/303908557/G4-Fail.mp3

Maybe it was a google disaster, Wow .. gotta love those disasters Worse that G4 relies on them if that's the case.. what's amusing is that the feed they get their translations.. have sound.. so why not *gasp* Listen to the broadcast to actually get the names? ROFL.. Must have been the same person that keeps mispronouncing names and coming up with the wrong relationships.. maybe that person still thinks that Nagano's boss is actually his father

Well, you know the story behind all of this: G4 was in the red so they had to fire all the translators. Olivia Munn was responsible for translation since Neal Tiles thought "she's the most Chinese looking." Well, she was too busy because Anna David was In Her Pants, so Tiles took the job himself. And, because Tiles currently has a business degree that he printed from www.fakedegreesforyou.com, he naturally f'd everything up.

I thought for a second you said that Anna David was in Tiles' pants. That wouldn't surprise me either, though!

And it's also sad that Tiles is not up to date on his nationalities, confusing Chinese and Japanese. Sigh.
But we should probably discuss Yamada so as not to go off topic - I've always been confused about the whole thing, too.

10,000th General SASUKE post! (I know, not relevant, sorry)
I do remember being slightly confused the first time I heard Stuart Hall call him Yasushi Yamada, but I just overlooked it as an error in translation. Watching SASUKE 19, it was correctly pronounced. Damn Ninja Warrior.
