Do you think he can make the Final Stage? He's been deep into the Third Stage twice in a row. On the other hand, he's aging, and has failed the First Stage twice.

I thought that he only failed the First Stage in Sasuke 21 due to the Warped Wall...correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, I think for some reason that he'll fail the First Stage this time around. Sure, he's done very well in the past two tournaments by making it to the Third Stage, but my gut tells me that he may end up having an early slip-up somewhere in Stage 1 (anywhere from the Jumping Spider to the Slider Jump) or run out of time on the Rope Ladder after some difficulty earlier on the Warped Wall or something else. Just a feeling that would creep me out a little if this prediction ends up becoming true...

In Sasuke 20 I couldn't believe he was able to complete the jumping spider since he almost didn't even stick to it because he didn't jump far enough.
He's a good competitor but I think he won't be having as much success down the road compared to his most previous runs. Then again, I hope I'm wrong.

Okuyama is what Katsumi Yamada would be or I guess would have been at that age if he didn't drive himself crazy cause of the course.
You got a great with great physical strength, great skills, and the speed and endurance needed to clear. The other thing is you can tell he has the mental toughness to compete, a very underrated aspect of Sasuke. I can tell he has it based on 20-23. Sasuke 20 he flat out got robbed, let's face it he should have been in stage 3. He fails in 21, then comes right back in 22 and gives his best performance. Comes back in 23, shows great improvement on everything that had given him problems, shaky, but sucessful on the SCH, and passed more obstacles after that. He's never let a past fail or bad luck effect him.
I would not be surprised he makes the final stage just because he has the drive and ability the other competitors have but also the mental toughness. His window is probably closing so if he's going to make it, now is the time.

I think Okuyama may go all the way to the final stage this time, and that's just based on his success from his previous two entries (23 and 22). He still seems to be in pretty good shape even if he ages, but that's just as long as he keeps training and doesn't sustain any injuries.

The thing with Okuyama that impresses me is that no matter the course, he has been stepping it up and doing incredibly well. His runs are flawless. His runs in 22 and 23's First Stages are identical, flawless. You can't say that about many people. Plus, he's pretty consistent. Obstacles that he has beaten before, he beat in 23 and as said before, he seems to have the mental strength to compete and do well.
Oh, and to answer yam's initial question: Okuyama has competed five times, meaning his first appearance was before 20. He could have competed in 19, but he also could have competed in any other tournament as well (except 1 or 18). So, we really don't know as it was all cut.

I'd like to see him in the Final Stage, but for some weird reason my instinct tells me that, if he gets to the Third Stage (which I think is the most likely) he'll fail the Gliding Ring. If he beats Stage 1, there's no way he'll be beaten by Stage 2. So it's either Stage 1, or Stage 3, and I'm confident that he'll beat the First Stage again. So, my prediction (based on no solid evidence) is he'll fail the Gliding Ring.

If they redesign the course all predictions somehow go out the window. However since his starting # will probably be in the mid 90s that at least will help him out some.

He does amazing for his age! Had he competed in earlier tournaments he may have been an all-star

I think he will go down sadly in stage 3 but if he got to the final stage it would be no suprise at all - hes damn well good enough and he deserves to I like Okuyama and I'd like to see him take on the metal mountain.

Okuyama will make it to the Final Stage.
The First Stage won't stop him. And if there's a redesign?? Remember Sasuke 22? Nothing in the Second Stage can stop him as long as the time limit isn't decreased dramatically. If the Third Stage doesn't change or changes a small bit (new second obstalce) He will most likely clear.
Nothing's stopping this 40 year old

BTW, is it just me or does Okuyama not like Levi? From watching Sasuke 20 he looked pissed off after Levi passed the 2nd stage

I think the real question is does any of the Japanese like Levi? But then this was from Sasuke 20 that Okuyama gave the look and not 21 or 22. So Okuyama didn't like Levi before he started doing the flips?

I never got the impression that Okuyama hated anyone at any time.. he was in shock in 20.. in fact if you keep looking at the video.. they go back to him and he says "brilliant" or something like that. He was in amazement at what he saw. He's about as low key as they get for Japanese in Sasuke. Personally I like it
