I've been watching the runs from both Sasuke 22 and 23 and was wondering, does it even matter if you're going 20 MPH or 2 MPH on the slider jump?
The only reason I'm saying this is because look at Kanno's run from 22....he barely even moved along the slider and still grabbed the net, yet Nagano went full speed and missed it.
So do you think it's better to go faster/slower for the slider jump?

If you go faster, you have a better chance of reaching the net. Without the move up, people like Jordan and Wakky would not have even touched the net.
Again, the reason Nagano never reached the net was because his hand rubbed against the rail, thus stopping all his momentum. Had he not done that, I have no doubt he would have cleared the Slider Jump.
Generally, I think its better to go faster because then you'll have more momentum at the bottom of the rail, which you need to reach the higher parts of the net and well, the net itself.

I've always wondered if someone could just not let go at the end of the rail, and then just try to swing their body with enough momentum to jump and reach the net.

And then run out of time on the last obstacle.
Inertia is key, but it goes both ways, sort of. Too little means you're going to waste time making the transfer, but too much means you're slamming into the net with no time to react.

I think holding on, swinging back once, and dismounting would work, but it's something I've always wanted to see someone actual do. Anyone with a replica wanna make a video of it, time it, and compare how much more time it takes up? If you have enough momentum to throw your legs forward as you hit the end, you can swing back once, and I think that would just probably take up about 3 seconds more.

I voted speed because every single person who went with some gusto had almost no issues or were so good at it they dang nearly caught the bar at the top of the jump hang.

Who tried this and where in the broadcast were there? And I'd say speed is pretty damn important in the Slider jump, even if you do pass when you pretty much crawl down the track you're going to lose too much time... Who knows, maybe Jotchev could have passed if he went faster down the track. he'd be finished with the slider faster so he wouldn't have lost time there, he would have been closer to the top and maybe he wouldn't have slipped from the net there because he caught a different part and even if he did the next rope would be closer, and he wouldn't have lost energy from the climb under so maybe he would have had just enough energy to climb the Rope Ladder fast enough and reach the top in time for a split second finish (Maybe recreating his 0.00 stage 1 clear from 8). Very unlikely but possible.

I have to check my blog (and not right now) but it was definately one of the fast forwards. I remember seing it and going "oh so someone DID try it".
I also remembering hearing that Nagano was thinking that it was just another pipe slider dismount (in Sasuke 22) and he used his hands in the same position. Then he realized that Takeda was right about having his hands straight and going at full force. When Yamada failed the first thing Nagano did was put up his hands showing that Yamada did it wrong (the way he did in 22) and the guys just nodded and walked away.

When you said it was a fast-forward I remembered, that one sports guy (I have no clue what sport XD) who was 96 or something in 22 who failed the spider walk portion of the Jumping Spider. Then I looked for the fast forward and saw it(After Oomori's run if anyone wants to check), he also reached one hand out instead of actually trying to jump it. So that might be why he failed it too...

Ah the rugby dude. I might be thinking of him. And yeah that would be a bit different that what is in question here (the jumping thing at the end like you would as a pipe slider).

Yeah I knew my brain wasn't completely melted.. I think the problem also arises with how the pipe wanted to come .. back? Does that make sense? The gif really shows it.. (Granted he also let go with one hand but it was a valiant attempt). Shows it's not the same obstacle and you cannot approach it the way you would the original Pipe Slider.

I'd say it matters. If you don't want to do a full pipe slider dismount (which could work in my opinion, but would be a great time waster), you need all the momentum you can have.
P.S. I saw rider's gif. If the guy let go the pipe with the other hand too, he would have made it. He just ...like....bounced backwards .

Judging by the position of the bar (how far it was), it looks like it went down the track wrong and the left side of the bar's stopper caused too much friction and stopped with no momentum to launch him at the net, it also looks like from how far his swing is back from the start it looks like he swung once or twice already, had he let go with both hands instead of trying to reach he would have reached the net (no clue as to whether or not he would have been able to hang on after being drained like that from the swing). Even if he did pass it he probably would have timed out on the rope ladder if he didn't run out of time before that.

I would say it matters at least somewhat. I do remember seeing a brief section from one of 23's phail compilations, in which somebody who's run was almost entirely cut had stopped hanging on to the bar at the end of the slider jump, and they obviously had no momentum to reach it. Of course, it is possible with varying levels of speed, but I think higher speed and, by extension, higher momentum would make it easier to reach the net.

I believe he could have made it if he had gone about it better.
