I'm checking a couple places and finding people talking about the ratings (but they don't provide a link) .. hoping Ube can find the link since I suck at that part.. Seems the overall rating was 14.1 (which is slightly down from last year by .6) but I don't see a breakdown for each hour or if they won their timeslot. Last's years: sasukemaniac.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=s22&action=display&thread=605Ube broke down the initial numbers. I haven't found anything on the TBS site (like Ube had) so apparently they are getting it from another source. Japanese wiki ( ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/SASUKE) has this but no reference as to where they found it: 第23回大会 2009年 9月27日(視・14.1% 19:00 - 22:54の4時間放送。)

The stations know the numbers for their own programs. It will take about a week or so to get all the numbers on Video Research. The sidebar on the right has the top ratings for TBS programming for the past week. Please note that that sidebar will change by next Sunday. www.tbs.co.jp/program/sasuke20090927.html

Awesome thanks. I found people online talking about it (I'm sure you saw it by now) but was wondering where they got it. Cool I'd like to see that on the research place you had the last time (I checked out the link I have and it's 2 weeks behind..) I hope they did win their timeslot at least. Seems they are holding steady. Maybe they are turned off by the 4 hour time? As a geek I love how long it is but maybe that is hurting the Japan ratings?

If you think about it, a show like this would increase the ratings for Sasuke 24, not 23, wouldn't you think?
The only people who would have known it was going to be that good were the people who alreayd knew the results, and if they went ot the trouble to get them in advance, they are going to watch anyway.

Not really.. 22's success would have maybe raised the ratings for 23 because 22 was a good tournament. Who knows what will happen in the Spring.

The latest numbers are not in the archive, they are usually under this link: www.videor.co.jp/data/ratedata/top10.htmLooking at the number in context. - Sunday is not a big big ratings day. Very few programs get consistent high ratings on that day. The only one is the NHK Taiga (Historical) drama all of which (there is a new one every year) generally get between a 17 to 20 every episode.
- The previous week, at the 7:00 to 9:00 slot, the program got a 5.4
- Overall, the ratings for TBS are bad bad bad compared to all the other stations.
- SASUKE will be listed under sports and a 14.1 is pretty good for non-special event sports programming. I wouldn't be surprised if it wins the sports slot.

Ah thanks. And that gets updated this week?
Wow so if the general average is under 10.. that being well over 10 should be really good news for the actual day they chose (Sunday). Hope that's good news! Wondering if they might keep the Sunday slot or change it back to Wednesday if they do Sasuke 24?

I should also add that TBS may not care so much about the ratings of their other shows since they won Silver Week with their presentation of Oscar-winner Okuribito, which was produced by TBS.

Well in terms of justifying another couple Sasuke Tournaments I figure since Sunday ratings usually suck and this was more than respectable they might call it a win and give M9 another few tourneys

Okay.. For TBS that week Sasuke was tied for 4th place in overall ratings: www.tbs.co.jp/program/sasuke20090927.htmlAnd for timeslot it seems to have won it's timeslot against NHK. I'm looking at the ratings for the NHK program (Autumn Grand Sumo Tournament) and their program was 2 hours before Sasuke (it was only a 1 hour program) so it seems Sasuke won their timeslot. www.videor.co.jp/data/ratedata/top10.htm

Not necessarily. If they won their timeslot.. they won their timeslot. Which means that anyone watching TV in Japan on Sunday night.. WAS watching Sasuke. That's good news for TBS. So long as TBS can justify continuing to support Sasuke that's all good news for us. If they kept losing to another show or their ratings would go down a lot more then they'd have to cancel the show. So let's see what happens. Usually TBS does some announcement on their website on the issue so I'm waiting to hear the wording on that. If they are happy.. then that's the news I want to hear.. after all they are in direct control of the fate of the show..

True getting Top is a plus, but they sometimes may want that, or higher ratings, sooo they decide, But as long as Sasuke keeps going on im good!

New numbers according to Japanese wiki During the 4 hour broadcast it seems their highest peak broke 20%. 第23回大会 2009年 9月27日(視・14.1% 瞬間最高視・ 20.2% 19:00 - 22:54の4時間放送。) This is great news! I'm not sure if Ube can find where they got those numbers.. maybe he can explain where they got that number from. I believe in Sasuke 22 they got 19.1 during the final when Yuuji was going for the title.

That's incredible... more than a fifth of all people watching TV in Japan at that time were watching SASUKE... wow.

True, that's possible. But I think holding the attention of a fifth of the Japanese TV-watching population is enough to make anyone say "DAMN!", don't you? ^_^
