In your opinion what was the saddest moment in 21?
It's a close one, but I have to say mark Whitmer.
For one I've talked a little bit to him, he's a nice guy.
Everyone expected him to go so far, and he lost kind of unfairly, and he must've been crushed because he dissapeared forever.
poor guy...
of course I'm sad for Shingo because that rope is too far away to just reach out, you NEED the rebound, Shingo was robbed, he had more time than most competitors...
I was sad for Yamada to, not jsut because he's one of my favorites, but did you see what happend to him? I thinkt he poor guy broke his leg, or at least hurt his angle, he would've at least gotten to the final climb and timed out had it not been for that.
(if he hadn't taken so damn long on the jumping spider he could have gotten it)
I didn't mention any 2nd or 3rd stage failures because if you get that far, it's not sad that you lost at all, because getting past stage 1 is a huge challenge itself, getting to stage 2 if you fail I clap. of course I feel bad but almost everyone was okay with losing on the 2nd stage, Brian and even Levi weren't upset.
There was ONE sad moment in stage 2 that caught my eye, Daisuke #1... After he beat stage 1 everyone was all predicting the salmon ladder would be his downfall... but we cheered for him the entire time. It's just too hard for him, his grip is better, he did the half pipe atack and flying chute, but the salmon ladder is just to killer.

Right on with Daisuke #1, who some of us call Nakata. Right after I saw him cradle his hands after the Downhill Jump, I said "He's not gonna be able to do it." I think everyone watching realized that too. But with about thirty seconds to go, everyone started cheering again. They all wanted him to make a go of it. Both a sad moment and an inspirational moment at the same time.

Mark's was saddest for me, because it was so unexpected, and he might never get another chance.
Yamada's was really unfortunate, he must've messed up his ankle pretty badly because he couldn't get anywhere near the Warped Wall, but it's amazing that he made the Half Pipe Attack. I thought it would be the end of him but he says he wants to try again, so it's not so bad. Whether he'll be able to is another question.
Nakata's was sort of bound to happen, so it wasn't as much of a shock as the two above. It was great to see him go that far and give it a go, so it's nothing but positives for him really.

I agree on those 2 Mark and Nakata especially Mark i was like about to cry when i saw it i like was in a state of shock. He thought he'd get going with one push but it didnt and it suddenly slipped and he didnt have time to get a new grip. if i could id pay his flight back to Japan. If i knew how. Cause i kno he can do it

Mark was definitly rushing too fast, he didn't even go for a grip, he just jumped on.
As for my entry, I'm still trying to figure out what exactly the saddest moment is.

Sasuke is like a cheap, cruel, and condescending prostitute whos laughs at you when you are naked. But you keep coming back for more because she is the only prostitute you can afford.
Yamada really had me in tears. poor guy

I definitely felt terrible for Nakata. Not long ago we were all talking about how we had seen the last of him, and he makes a comeback to silence us all. We know his hands aren't well, and I was hoping he'd at least get past the Salmon Ladder. As soon as I saw his tough landing on the Downhill Jump pad, I thought "oh no. Not again". I really hope he's okay and that he'll consider coming back again (even if the back of my mind is skeptical about it).
I didn't get to see Shingo's run (I couldn't find it on YT) but I must ask: what's happened to him? I can't believe he has failed the 1st stage 4 times in a row now! Hard to believe he last passed it two years ago.
I did see Yamada's run, though, and it was terrible to see him in pain. It didn't help that the Warped Wall was always one of his mortal enemies. I really think one day he will get revenge on his last 4 years of failures and make it to Stage 2 and beyond. I just have that feeling - or it's just a strong "I hope so".

Hard to believe he last passed it two years ago. He breezed through the stage and then at the Flying Chute dropped onto the rope really slowly, so that whatever he did he couldn't get enough momentum to get to the net. He spent about 50 seconds on that obstacle and then finally fell. He basically did what Takeda did in 20, except even worse.

To be honest, I didn't feel sad at all for Yamada's run. He seemed to know that he wasn't 100% and was almost surprised when he passed the Jumping Spider...and then, well, he fell on his foot, and that made it worse, but at least he made it to the Warped Wall. He did better than I expected, though I don't know if it's that my expectations are too low.

Honestly, the saddest moment for me was seeing Takeda on the Hang Climbing just unable to make any type of progress on it. Imo, this was his best tournament and he has never been better than he is now. It was sad for me because you could tell he was trying everything, and nothing was working. I honestly thought he could make it to the Final Stage based on how well he was doing.

I think Takeda was at that point where he knew he was screwed, because if he released one arm to try and grab another hold, he would immediately fall. He just didn't have any strength left. That sort of thing happens quite a lot in the third stage. I knew he was done when he started trying to get his feet on it.

Not to mention Takeda had to re-do stage 1 and 2, so I can't believe he made it as far as he did.

well scnoi1217 told me on AIM yesterday that Takeda had to re-do both the 1st and 2nd stage for some reason, but I don't know why.

Wait, he redid the first two stages!? And he STILL made it to the Hang Climbing? Takeda has become an official badass.

Bunpei's second stage exit was a bit sad too, because he could've gone so far. I wasn't even watching it closely at the time, I was looking at the chat room on the side because apparently I was taking the Downhill Jump for granted, then I suddenly saw a splash of water and I was more than shocked. Thank god the bottom of that platform was padded, because he fell backwards.

Quite a couple of sad ones.
Ichiro (I think thats the 54-year old's name) fail at the chute, I thought he would finally make it).
A couple of the qualifiers failings. All they went through to just drink the water.
Sato really had a tough break.
Not saying Mark, since almost everyone who said he'd go far, but Luci would fail where he did. Not trying to say he didn't deserve to fail, just ironic.
Biggest are Shingo's Yamada's and Bunpei's my mouth was open on Bunpei's for a good 1-1 1/2 minutes.
