Akiyama Kazuhiko ultimately failed the Pipe Slider in Stage 3 in the 12th tournament. Simple question : what would have happened if he didn't?

I think he would have failed, though I think he was physically capable of success.
The transition from the Spider Climb to the rope was problematic for everyone on that version of the Final Stage. While Akiyama would be able to see the rope, it would cost precious time.
That transition cost Nagano his first time, and I think it would be the same for Akiyama.

I have no way of knowing if Akiyama would have been as incredible on the 2.0 final stage as he was on the original 50ft one. I remember first finding out on the G4 abysmal broadcast of 12. It was sweet seeing that he made it that far into the 3rd stage, but bitter because his run was skipped and the fact that he had to fall backwards on that last obstacle. But what can I say, that's happened to people like Takeda on several more occasions.
Final Stage, fail. A mediocre at best Spider Climb and an excellent rope climb would have him at the 2/3rds mark.

I'm guessing he'd fail because, despite his great rope climbing abilities, I don't believe he can spider climb fast enough.
