I think given the Drew situation, this whole pandemic and being forced to change the show has been a messed up, blessing in disguise for NBC.
The show has a totally different focus and feel. If they return to a normal style Midoriyama show next year, it will have been 2 years post-total victory and easier to gloss over.
Having Daniel fail the final stage time limit last year is an ad campaign dream.
“Only one person has ever made it up Mt. Midoriyama.....and failed....”
Then just ignore the prior champions, unless they compete.

Trying to compare this case and charges to Jared from Subway is headache inducing.
On the surface, Jared’s seems more sick and perverse. But he didn’t entice anyone to come to him and apparently didn’t have vids/pics of his victims, just other child porn.
Jared got 15 years. Drew is facing 2 extra charges that Jared didn’t have. If Drew’s attorneys can’t get a significant Plea Agreement on the Enticing and Manufacturing charges, he will be looking at quite a long time. And the evidence is telling.

So it's been a while since I have watched a Sasuke so I jumped back in with Sasuke 35 and honestly I was surprised to see so many old obstacles back and for that matter seem very old school in that the course just didn't have the same feel as tourneys past (Sasuke 20, 21, 22, etc.) I feel like I missed something or have I just become jaded to American Ninja Warrior? TBS has not given them any money to play with for new obstacles. The budget is super low. Health and Safety has also prevented them from getting too creative/crazy, even if they had the money.

I saw this and freaked out. Then I wondered if it was actually him or just someone with the crazy mustache who looked almost just like him.

Pretty sure Drew’s Instagram story puts him in the Germany area.

I don't get how people keep saying ANW is cheap to make? Surely building all the obstacles and different courses in different locations costs a lot. Most tv shows cost in the ballpark of $3-5 million....per episode. Shows with effects like Game of Thrones are running like $10 million per episode. When compared to what they spend on scripted shows with actors, it’s peanuts.

I thought the same thing. The show started with the NBC jingle and bad pulled quotes from Matt and Ackbar. What followed was a genuinely good interview that talked boot camp, touched on Sasuke, and was pretty informative.

I was surprised to see Morimoto, Tomo, and Drew all clear both cliffhanger jumps. Only because if the nightly temperatures, though. I think that heater on the resting pad really helped lol

No one chooses their number, they're always given out. Even the Sasuke 18 race had numbers production blocked people from getting, saving them for a couple of the top competitors. Even Nagano had to be pushed into getting something in the 90s. When you go to confirm your attendance, you're given your number -- that's what's happening when you see the shot of competitors lined up at tents. Yep. Obviously the higher ones (like champions) are asked sometimes (not always.. Morimoto is NEVER asked.. he finds out the second he got the bib). We know the story of Yuuji asking to not get 100 because of the pressure. Nagano didn't care either way.. he was always the last All-Star so that was pressure enough. Everyone else finds out at the registration desk. Hioki for the record thought TBS hated him for giving him the number until Inui told him personally the reason. After that he wore the number with pride understanding his role and appreciated that he also gets a LOT more coverage of him and his family as a result of how Inui edits the show. So don't feel bad for him. He's nervous but consistently clears for TBS thus fulfilling the role given to him quite nicely. The footage and coverage with his family literally brightens my day no matter what is going on. They are literally the most adorable group of ppl I’ve ever seen. For that reason alone I’m always happy when he’s the first clear lol

I really liked that Jun Sato finally got fluff pieces, exposure, etc. He’s been on their crap list for several years (rightfully so, I believe). He came off so much more pleasant here than I was expecting and it was a nice change from his fast forward palooza.

Joe Moravsky tweeted that the reason for him choosing not to compete was because of horrible payment and contracts. Could be a known fact, but I wanted to throw that out there. I’m really wondering if this is going to come back to bite him in the butt. He admitted once that he was told to shut his mouth by NBC/Comcast.

Punk was always good on commentary so I think he will be good. A little surprised they stuck with Tiki because he was just so vanilla and boring at times.

I can’t believe how good the livestream was this year. I literally watched every run in stage 2 and 3. At work. I love my job lol. The multi camera angles added so much.

It looks like there was a plea deal struck in the last couple months. So a not guilty plea turned into a guilty plea, reduced charges, probation....but a major strike on the record. NNL went with the proper “innocent until proven guilty” stance. Circumstances changed, it’s sucks for all involved.

I’m predicting a blood bath of no more than 1-2 clears in the first 80 ppl. All bets are off after that. That dipper is going to thrash everyone and the lower time will wreak havoc on the mind.

Drew’s Instagram story is from Tokyo indicating a chilly 41 degrees, so that’s confirmed. No clue on Jessie.

I think a lot of ppl who say they miss the boot camp era aren’t really missing the camp style so much. I think they miss what those particular episodes gave us, which was a more in-depth feel for those particular competitors.
For the majority of the ppl on this forum, I’m sure that we feel much more emotionally invested in the guys from those shows than the newer ppl today. Even if some of the stuff was dramatized up a bit, we all felt like we got to know them. A heck of a lot more than today’s 3-4 min fluff/sob story pieces. It was nice getting to know them a bit, but you could tell it was hurting them. The injuries from janky obstacles and challenges definitely didnt help their Sasuke results.
