Interesting, was the power tower even mentioned in this episode?

I thought power tower was only shown during the finals for this season? nope, theres a part in qualifier where the top 2 times compete on the power tower and whoever wins gets all of their team to the semi finals even if they didnt qualify. It kinda seems that way since Julius and Taylor werent shown off in a team, and Taylor's time of 2:21 on Slingshot versus 11th places 1:25 is too much of a difference, especially since other people who didnt qualify failed Slingshot and the likely speculation is Drew was in the top 12, probably top 2, leading to the power tower cut, and Taylor being forced in the top 12 to hide his presence. (She'd qualify anyways as part of the women top 3, but she didnt seem to be part of the legit top 12, and Jody probably didnt win it otherwise his teammates would be mentioned as part of the semi finals)

I think the excellent obstacles this year are essentially due to the new creations being less "diluted" than previous years.
Historically, new obstacles have been split between six regions, with two stages each, plus the four stages of Vegas. This led to a lot of half assed modifications and "filler" obstacles for a lack of a better term.
But this year? The cut back format means only the cream of the crop saw the light of day. I'm guessing a whole bunch of unused obstacles were created in the buildup to filming, but later scrapped. Overall, I like what I'm seeing this season.

Some interesting things to note about this episode. {Spoiler} I saw someone on reddit say that Julius Ferguson and Taylor Johnson were Drew's teammates. Which would explain why they didn't show those two's teammates and would also explain why they completely skipped out on the Power Tower. Based on who qualified I think it's safe to say that Drew finished with a top 2 time and competed on the power tower. Also according to ANW Nation, only 37 competitors were listed.. Meaning there was someone else who was completely cut off of the show?
Julius undoubtedly was Drew's teammate, he coached him on the sideline in s11, telling him to get to Angry Birds fast (which explains why both runs were fast-forwarded)
This also explains the suspicious time. Look at ANW nation's thing; it states Ryan was in 11th at 1:25, but 12th was... Taylor Johnson with 2:21? This has nothing to do with women's rule or TJ's skill, but rather that the differences in time to others who failed Slingshot were about 5-7 seconds apart, the 56 second difference is reaaaally sus (about 10+ other people failed there too).
In addition to this she already got in via top 3 women, so it's a lot, a lot easier to rationalise her still being part of the top 12. That's likely what happened.
If Drew hadn't competed at ALL, I reckon someone else would've popped in to the top 12 instead eg: Casey Suchocki for instance. But now they've had to cut him so yeah
EDIT: oop nvm someone else mentioned it too

Back to Casey Suchocki. I have my own sheet where I keep track of results and who's currently in top 12, etc. And I wrote down that Casey Suchocki made it to the 5th obstacle in 1:35.58 and when I saw the top 12 and noticed that he wasn't there, I assumed that it wasn't a mistake but now I'm thinking that they might have actually just cut him out of top 12. I'm going to go through the episode later today and see whether that was actually the case or not.

Jake Murray confirm on his Facebook that Jody indeed won on the Power Tower but unfortunately it was against Drew.

I went back into the episode, and Casey Suchocki did in fact make it to the 5th obstacle in 1:35.58. He made it there faster than Taylor Johnson who 'made' the Top 12, which means that Casey was more than likely 13th or 14th if Drew was still included in the results, which would explain why Taylor was put into 12th because she still made semis.

with all of this, it's likely that jody's teammates are just going to be cut completely from the semi-finals, unless they just randomly appear. as for the upcoming episodes, it will be interesting to see how they address the power tower, since they just skipped over it in the first episode.

Yeah, safe to assume Jody’s team didn’t get far and they’ll edit them out of the semis. I bet they just mention the power tower and what it does without acknowledging the first episode discrepancy. Also would put money on the fact that this wasn’t supposed to be episode 1 until the arrest happened. Throw this one up first and makes it easier to have no power tower then dropping it in the middle of the qualifiers.

Interesting, was the power tower even mentioned in this episode? "Power Tower Result No Power Tower match-up was shown in the first qualifiers episode. The top two finishers, Tyler Gillett and Jody Avila, should have competed for the right to bring their teammates to the semifinals. However, after the final competitor finished the course, the final leaderboard was shown and the episode concluded. The Power Tower was never mentioned in the entire episode, and no explanation was given as to why it was not shown. It was later confirmed that the reason for the Power Tower match-up not being shown is because it involved Drew Drechsel, who was edited out of the season due to NBC and A. Smith & Co permanently cutting ties with him. Likely for this reason, the producers chose to air this particular qualifiers episode first, as it would be awkward to show the Power Tower one week, then not the next week. Drechsel and Avila both competed on the Power Tower, and inside sources confirmed that Jody Avila won, while also confirming Taylor Johnson and Julius Ferguson were Drechsel's teammates (both formerly worked at his gym). Drechsel's teammates were shown during the episode. However, their runs were digested and the sideline was not shown. Both of them advanced to the semifinals, as Ferguson finished and placed 5th, and Johnson failed on the Slingshot but was 2nd among the women. So, a win by Drechsel on the Power Tower would not have changed anything (but since Avila won, his two teammates, who both failed on the Weight for It, advanced). Although Taylor Johnson was shown to be 12th place overall during the broadcast, this was not true in reality. The actual 12th place competitor was a male who failed on the Slingshot, but with Drechsel's participation, that competitor finished in 13th place and did not move on to the semifinals. To avoid a discrepancy in the semifinalists, the producers moved Taylor Johnson up to the 12th spot since she advanced as part of the top 3 women. This explains why there is such a large time difference between Johnson (2:21.53) and the 11th place semifinalist, Ryan Lashoff (1:25.63). It has been confirmed that at least one non-semifinalist reached the Slingshot faster than Taylor Johnson." Well, this all actually makes sense and confirmed my thoughts that the Power Tower wasn't mentioned in this ep either.

Week2: ① Shrinking Steps ② Lunatic Ledges ③ Spinning Bridge ④ Ring Chaser ⑤ Honeycomb Hang ⑥ Warped Wall / Mega Wall I mean... given both the qualifiers of the previous seasons, and the standard set by the countless ANW spinoffs, that's really the bare minimum we were expecting...
