Well it has been confirmed by Brent Steffensen he will not be in this season as he never got a call back. Plus he did announced he will no longer be on the show. Probably some of the best news to come out of 2020.

That's a shame... however, from brent's post it seems like this is the best for him too. Man I can't decide what the ninja community is anymore.

So much wasted space. AuNW and NWUK were much more resourceful with their amount of space. I believe the photo isnt a completed setup btw Even then, looking at that picture gave me a migraine. That stadium easily has more space than a good chunk of the European spinoffs, but they didn't even try to fit in the full, four-stage experience. If Ninja Warrior UK, Germany, Spain and more can all fit four stages indoors, why on earth not ANW. It just feels like such a cop out to just scrap the stages altogether and arbitrarily decide on a ten obstacle finals course.

This may be the final time this year I will be watching ANW for good due to this new sort-of TNW format. Besides I couldn't even imagine how the ratings and viewership will hold up once the new season airs.

Fully agree, I just reaaaally hope they course-correct and return to normal for ANW 13... assuming that even happens. On one hand, I can kind of see why they chose the format they did. Viewers are extremely used to "qualifiers" and "semi-finals", so they kept those around somewhat. ... On the other hand, the worse thing they could possibly do is get enamoured with the lower planning/construction costs of just one location, and decide to keep the "covid format" moving forward. It would not only destroy what makes ANW special, but also what Ninja Warrior is all about.

For the qualifiers, the fastest 2 times take on the power tower. The one who wins the power tower would bring the rest of their team to the next round. That's the only team aspect. The rest of it is individual. It's certainly not the same as usual but it's not really team based. That was one of my concerns early on.

If true, I reaaally don't like that they're taking "safety pass elements" to the next level. The Safety Pass is one thing, but at least a competitor had to earn the safety pass, and still had to clear the stage on their second attempt if they used it. This is just straight up: "you fell fair and square, but your teammate did well so guess you can move on to the next round."

At least it’s only 2 people per qualifier, it’s not like it’s a crazy amount. Plus, if those people that automatically advance didn’t actually deserve to be in city finals, they’re going to fail city finals regardless.

I think given the Drew situation, this whole pandemic and being forced to change the show has been a messed up, blessing in disguise for NBC.
The show has a totally different focus and feel. If they return to a normal style Midoriyama show next year, it will have been 2 years post-total victory and easier to gloss over.
Having Daniel fail the final stage time limit last year is an ad campaign dream.
“Only one person has ever made it up Mt. Midoriyama.....and failed....”
Then just ignore the prior champions, unless they compete.
