At least Pete has a lot, a lot of supporters. http://instagr.am/p/BfYowswnATY Also, have that feeling that he could be in stage 3, at least in stage 2 because of that Naval Pilot background

Nice to see Jun with them for a change. Staged shoot or not, I've always thought that he may be a little bit misunderstood.

Just like the All-Stars before them they learn to deal with the situation for the cameras. They scatter once the cameras are off them. No different than anything honestly. Jun won't change and everyone else is too scared to say anything.

So in order to advertise the show, a large promotional article has been printed...in Weekly Playboy.
Cue all the fans and competitors going out to buy gravure mags.
Can't decide if this is vaguely funny or just plain weird.

Can't decide if this is vaguely funny or just plain weird. Neither.. it's exposes the misogyny.. I just have to wonder why this seemed like a reasonable plan. Did they somehow think this will reach their target audience, especially in the digital age? Did the magazine offer cheap ad space? They essentially cut out gravure models pointlessly competing this year, so it isn't even cross-promotion / mutually beneficial. I feel like they'd have way more milage putting this in nearly any other magazine. Like, if they ran this in some popular youth-targeted audience like Shonen Jump (although that would be expensive) they'd benefit themselves way more.

These are the same people who designed obstacles in Kunoichi on purpose to ogle at boobs and get away with it on Television. And don't forget .. order women according to their Cup size in Sasuke... Misogyny in Japan is legendary. It's a huge problem that is still socially acceptable in Japan even if the rest of the world is living in a different century.

I don't have a problem with a Playboy ad. Pretty funny - at least the lazy losers who still purchase them for instant gratification can be reminded of the in shape guys who actually get to compete along side those girls. The thing that really matters to some people, like others have been saying for the last couple of years, is the lack of effort in trying to have the female population of Japan excel like Western women have. To a certain extent they have tried, some of the girls from Kunoichi are pretty legit, but still little comparison. It all comes down to the culture climate, and for those that care about that sort of thing fervently, you're gonna have to be the change you wanna see in the world (Japan) because Japan certainly isn't changing its tune any time soon.

I think this is one of the worst marketing decisions they could have possibly made.

I think this is one of the worst marketing decisions they could have possibly made. You clearly don't remember Higuchi's era. Inui does gravure models.. Higuchi did straight up porn stars. I think the issue going on now is that this is "normal" in Japan and acceptable when it shouldn't be especially considering that it's not just a marketing ploy but how they gauge and evaluate Japanese women on their own shows. ANW women are foreigners and they are treated vastly different. Japan has some serious problems with how they treat women and then they wonder why the population is declining and young women refused to get married and have kids.

Hey Higuchi was straight up pimp actually getting Aoi Sora to be on Kunoichi at the height of her popularity as a porn star. She was one of many but the most famous of these examples.

Get one of the most popular adult stars on your show, and relegate her surprisingly solid performance (timing out just before being able to start the last obstacle) to Sasuke Mania and digest her on the main show. Monster9.

Although geared for men (there is nudity), the magazine is not connected to the US Playboy magazine and this is not really all that controversial. It is more of an explicit version of a "lad's mag." That doesn't mean that there aren't gender issues at play but people are making this seem more than it is.
