flip somewhat admitted his backstory back in like season 3 or 4 (around the time he started competing), except he just said that he was going through family problems, i think he talked a little bit about his dad before, but didn't go much into detail. Pretty surprised that it was that serious

Joe's backstory was good, but it kind of came out of left field and almost (I hate to say it because it truly is a tragedy) seemed like the producers were looking for another angle for Joe.
