Applications have been open for months already. I suggest everyone send one in super early.
Honestly I'll just do what I've been doing every year... using old footage and editing it together in Windows Movie Maker. How this has led to me being accepted on three separate occasions I'll never know. If I don't get accepted and it's in KC again, I'll just be a walk-on since I'll be out of College by then and I'll actually have the ability to wait in the god forsaken line.

I sent mine in super early last season too (probably about a week after the applications were open) and I got the call. But I also know of other people who literally waited until the last week to submit theirs and still got the call.

I'm not going to be submitting this year. First of all, I have about a 0.01% chance of getting accepted, and second, even if I do, I'm not prepared enough to do well enough to get re-invited for future years. I fear that if I get accepted and fail the qualifiers, I won't ever be accepted again.

I don't think there's any harm in trying, personally.

There were 4x as many applicants for ANW7 as there were for ANW6 (thanks Kacy) and 70% of the accepted applicants were rookies. Guys who have made it to Vegas are getting rejected. If you don't show that you're a marketable character and are going to make it deep on the course, it's becoming a situation where you get phased right out.

I agree with everyone else I think you should apply simply because it's not going to get any easier to get the call because more new people will apply every year and it will just be that much harder to get accepted.

If you don't show that you're a marketable character and are going to make it deep on the course, it's becoming a situation where you get phased right out. It was my 3rd time competing. I've never even made it to the warped wall, and I still got the call even in the season with 50,000 applicants. Now I have no f***ing clue how that happened, but that just goes to show that anything is possible. Athletic ability be damned, they really don't care. There have been submission videos that showed off literally zero athleticism that got picked. It's a far cry from how it was back in the ANC days where competitors where chosen purely based on their athletic prowess. It's the COMPLETE opposite now. Will you make good tv? Then you're in! And honestly, if my s***ty and awkwardly put together video using footage that's 7 years old got me onto the show, I'm pretty sure anyone has a shot. Choose a niche (if you don't, they will for you anyway) and push that niche as hard as you can. I pushed my "super fan" aspect. Generally casting will pick X amount of people from different categories. X middle aged white men with obstacle courses in their back yards, X former military men, X super fans. Though despite that being my selling point, that's not what NBC was even interested in. They liked the fact that I delivered pizzas, which is probably the dullest thing on my application by far. I didn't even want to mention it at first.

I know some people would disagree, but I've always thought that you should only apply if you think you have a legitimate shot at going deep into the competition. Like, at least be able to make it to Stage 2 or 3 of Vegas. Keep in mind that with you getting a call to qualifiers, you're taking the spot away from 1 other person. You owe it to them to be strong enough to make a deep run. Of course, you should always strive to be the best you can be, follow opportunity, take chances, blah blah blah, no matter your physical abilities or stage in life or whatever. But I find it annoying to see competitors that have absolutely no chance of making it past the Q steps, or can't lift themselves, or whatever. There are exceptions: women, people for entertainment purposes only, celebrities, and wildcards. But if you are a serious competitor, it is your obligation to be able to clear at least Stage 1, if not all 4, because you're taking the spot away from someone who potentially can.

I do feel bad when I get accepted over Vegas veterans, but it's not like my application is taking away from their spots. They didn't get on because their videos weren't exciting enough. If it wasn't me, it'd be somebody else. If anything, blame NBC's revolving door set up.
