For those who remembered DOORS from waaaaaay back when, it seems Inui will be directing the spiritual successor called ZEUS. For those who aren't familiar.. think Takeshi's Castle + Celebrities (heavy on that) + Sportsman/SportsDanchi but with teams. It's an obstacle course show so I'm all over that. TBS StoryZEUS TwitterBetween Inui and the ZEUS twitter they have been giving behind the scenes stuff from the taping of the show which is ongoing. This morning Inui posted this. He posts all kinds of things that may or may not be obstacles or prop pieces. I just find this stuff interesting.

Haven't watched it but this starts from the 2nd Battle, which is the machine that Inui had a hand in designing. Not sure how long it will be up. www.miomio.tv/watch/cc187298/

LOL at how the second round is just copied straight from Wipeout, I guess TBS gets a free pass when it comes to that though

Wipeout stole directly from Takeshi's Castle which TBS owned. Hell.. they even won millions in the lawsuit against ABC for copying Takeshi's/MXC a few years ago. If anything, all of this is from Banzuke which predated Wipeout by at least a decade.

The sweeper from Wipeout was never used on Banzuke. But yeah, that's why I agreed that TBS can take whatever they want in any form from Wipeout, seeing as you could argue that Wipeout wouldn't exist without TBS and I'm sure ABC doesn't want to have to deal with TBS legally anymore.

You sure about that? I've seen a sweeper type obstacle/gag as far back as when "I" was a kid in other shows from the 70's and 80's. This is hardly a new gag and hardly something Wipeout created.

Other than ABC having to pay TBS a royalty for the America's Funniest Home Videos format (based on a segment from an old TBS' variety show), of course. Hopefully, since they already do 炎の体育 Inui can eventually get some Johnny's guys onto SASUKE. EXILE have their fans but to get some Johnny's or AKB members would definitely do SASUKE ratings some good. Show got a 10.6/12.4 according to F-cast. dmate.blog99.fc2.com/blog-entry-2059.html

Hey that's not bad at all! I know Inui was really happy with the ratings. I liked the show. It was goofy and fun to watch. That's all I really expected out of it. It wasn't anywhere as difficult as DOORS was but still fun to watch.

God there were a lot.. back in the 1970's and 80's when obstacle courses were HUGE.. that was a cheap obstacle to do. Variety shows on TV even had them (Donny and Marie, Brady Bunch and fit shows like Battle of the Network Stars and a BUNCH from Wide Wide World of Sports (which ironically was ABC). I'm not familiar with the Japanese ones as that's something I didn't know about, however there were a LOT stolen from them since back then the markets were pretty much separated. Only the hardcore knew anything about each market and the USA took advantage that that gap existed. Same could be said for the UK shows. Lord knows there were a TON of stuff we copied from them too. I'm sure some of the older UK fans can attest to that obstacle being in one of their shows in the 70's and 80's as well. It was a gimmick back then too with it slowing down, speeding up just like it was in this episode. It's an oldie but goodie!

If they wanted to ABC could probably try to sue TBS for copying off Battle of the Network Stars Nah, first of all that was all 3 networks and it took turns on each network. Also, it's hard to explain how BIG this type of show was. Japan had been doing them since the 50's-60's but in variety show format (sorta like today) as comic relief. USA started to adapt different versions of those fro the UK that had been running from the 1960's. Battle of the Network Stars was something in the mid-late 70's using named people as a way of cross marketing to watch their shows. Brilliant concept really as they were allowed to say "Tom Selleck from Magnum PI" on ABC or NBC even though Magnum was a CBS shows. Sadly that kind of show can never happen today because of all the exclusiveness and competition of the networks with each other. I kinda miss it even if it was cheesy as all hell.

Had no idea these kind of shows/segments existed so far back, even if they perhaps weren't the size they are nowadays.

Had no idea these kind of shows/segments existed so far back, even if they perhaps weren't the size they are nowadays. Oh the hayday for obstacle course shows peaked during the early 1980's. The joke was you couldn't swing a dead cat around your head without smacking into one. LOL Every channel had a version of it or they had a segment in one of their variety shows. Some can argue that Latin America never got out of it since they still have variety shows celebrating over 40+ years with gag sketches. Most of them though are for some sort of money (think Price is Right but physical). I think the fact that they are doing a comeback now is fitting given that everyone seems to be rehashing all of the nostalgia stuff from the 70's and 80's now and updating it with current people. Hell.. I think American Gladiators is making a comeback too!
