TBS's page for Sports Danshi Grand Prix 2014 is up. I saw the tokusatsu actors from this listed on Tumblr - the full lineup is at www.tbs.co.jp/spodan/cast/. Sano Gaku is back (and, as a Kamen Rider Gaim fan, GAKKUN, YOU HAD BETTER WIN AGAIN), as is Mori (who I'm also fine with winning), Seiya (hey, 2nd season Sengoku from the Prince of Tennis musicals), and THE LEGEND Iketani Naoki (because we all know TBS will call him that a zillion times again - I can't read Japanese, and even I can figure out that there's mentioned the 23 box Monster Box record there). Nagase Tasuku (aka Kamen Rider Beast in Kamen Rider Wizard) and Yokohama Ryusei (aka ToQ #4 from Ressha Sentai ToQger) are back from Sasuke 30. I am facepalming over Matsuda Ryo (who was also in Gaim, as Kamen Rider Gridon), only because I saw his photobook, and he'll need to work out to be on par with the others (unlike Yokohama, who might outdo the others in that regard). Anyway, it's on 12/23. Is the time 6:30 pm JST?

Ya! It's 6:30 PM Here's the full schedule for the day. I don't think I can watch it live. Btw that's a Tuesday morning for us around 4:30 Eastern. Last couple of times there were no streams but TBS has a Youtube page that they update constantly (last year they uploaded clips every 15 minutes). Also, for those who are unfamiliar.. this is basically Celebrity Sportsman. This is also an Inui show. Edit: Commercial is up!

Unless he's taking over the show this year, I don't think Inui has anything to do with Spodan.

They've taken out the Mountain Flag and Hard Anchor and replaced them with Hard Jumper (the thing with the yellow bar) and Pulls Drive (the thing with the car).
The order (according to the TBS page) will be The Fence, Hard Jumper, Monster Box, Pulls Drive, Power Wall, Shotgun Touch. After Pulls Drive only the top eight move on to the Power Wall. From the Power Wall it goes down to the final three who will compete in the Shotgun Touch.

Ah I didn't know that. The way Inui talks about the show I thought he worked on it.

Inui could be crosspromoting it on his Twitter, since Sasuke fans might be interested in SpoDan, or he could be looking at it for possible ideas for celebrity competitors on Sasuke. I didn't realize that Mandy Sekiguchi (hey, his outfit says Mandy this yet) was coming back also - I didn't recognize him with the blond hair, until I watched the ad. That's at least 5 competitors on this SpoDan who have also been on Sasuke, so Inui possibly watching it for talent spotting is a good idea (coughgetGakkunonSasuke,Inuicough).
Also, I'm laughing at the name Pulls Drive, when they have two people competing who are in the currently-in-theaters Kamen Rider Gaim x Drive movie (Gakkun and Matsuda Ryo). Much as I love Mountain Flag, I can somewhat see them dropping it since The Fence is similar in some respects (the whole racing to the top bit).
And thank you, TBS, for already proving my thoughts were correct about THE LEGEND bit coming up again when you show him doing Monster Box in the ad. LOL
I can actually swing it live mostly, although I'll probably resort to using KeyHole - heck, if I convince my housemate (who is not waking up that early on her day off even though she would like it) to take me to work, I could even see then end. Hmmm...

Well there was talk to try to get more Sasuke only guys in that type of show, He knows Sportsman is my favorite of the old M9 shows! Yeah.. I wish someone was streaming it but I'm not going to hold my breath. I know Sasuke will but I don't know if they will have time to do this show on such early notice.

It looks like they will be posting youtube videos again so at least there's that.
If you try to do search of the Japanese name with the kanji 動画 (douga) you sometimes find videos, usually Chinese. If they are on Japanese sites, you have to look quickly because they get taken down.

The Spodan twitter and youtube accounts were silent all night. Oh well. Liveblog (with results if you were planning on watching the show later for some reason): lostinube.blogspot.jp/2014/12/2014-sports-danshi-grand-prix-2014.html{Results}Mandy Sekiguchi defended his title. Wataru Mori finished 2nd. Masato finished 3rd. If I read it correctly, Naoki Iketani lost his first Monster Box competition in fifteen years.

well i was going to stream it but that was beyond our control, so i figured i would have a backup through one service as a download, but looks like it the service itself glitched before it started and only grabbed the last 40 minutes or so. sorry its not the whole thing, its up in the one area

Didn't he lose in 2010? His comrade got to the 23 jump and he failed 22 I think.

Thank you for having the exact same reaction as I did when I saw that! That explains why she was so animated in her support of Mori. (ducks) Thumbs up to Mori (and to her for getting a younger man - she's only a year younger than me, it gives me hope ). I did get to see almost all of this live thanks to Niji (another free p2p streaming program, although it is a bit of a pain to set up because the current installer doesn't install the latest version of some components, and you have to install a sister program to get those), with the exception of the showdown between Mori and Mandy during Shotgun Touch, since I had to go to work (and then didn't get a chance to post since I've pretty much been sick since then). Ube, thanks again for your liveblog! I checked that at work to see what I missed. Your tags alone are priceless. I did have to laugh at the love between the Kamen Rider Gaim castmates (the whole cast is just precious together), but seriously, Matsuda Ryo, you do not need to emulate Jounouchi's usual fail when you were on The Fence. Also, SpoDan producers, you couldn't get another song besides Just Live More from Gaim? Gakkun had two that he sung that were both kickass and would have worked well for him instead of having to reuse Just Live More. Just sayin'. Thanks for more Kamen Rider x Kamen Rider Gaim and Drive Movie Wars footage, though, in both of their promos, and at least that was different footage for each of them. In regards to the new events, I didn't mind Hard Jumper, although Mountain Flag was more exciting. As for Pulls Drive, I prefer Hard Anchor, since I don't remember people just flat out not finishing that before, yet it was still a good strength test. Pulls Drive is something you tend to see in major strongman competitions, and not really something most SpoDan competitors could be expected to be able to do. Was this the first time they've denoted previous winners before by their shirts, and was that way Mandy's shirt color was different? Finally, I'm amused that we had two LEGENDs this time around. I wonder if Naoki was not pleased that he didn't have that spotlight all to himself this time...

I'm not sure if they did the jersey thing before. I know the colored jersey for the previous winner was a Sportsman No. 1 thing.
Pulls Drive is also a sort of call back to Sportsman except they usually did that as a harness that they would wear and it was part the Workout Guys event.
Well, at least Naoki finished in the top ten. Plus, it's better for him to be there if he's going to be doing stuff like outright saying he doesn't want Gaku to win the Monster Box. That was great.

Sat down and watched all of it today with my laptop reading your blog every step of the way (it was very very helpful and hilarious with the comments). Hubby in specific loved your running commentary. Thanks so much! Oh and I miss Powerforce.. /ducks P.S. And yes Naoki openly dissing Sano was priceless. For the record.. hubby was cheering against Sano too! LOL
