So anyone who wants to compete in the ASEAN Cup, regardless of if they have a spin-off in their area, can try to go through qualifying? Seems to be a bit against the whole idea of what the ASEAN Cup event was supposed to be, right? If that is how it's going to be, then I hope TBS doesn't waste time sending anyone there to actually compete (sending them for PR is fine) because it means that for everywhere except the US, the Japan show is now THE show. I don't think people competing in ANW will be able to compete in the ASEAN Cup without harming their chances of appearing in ANW. Edit: And just to save people time: living/working in Japan does not mean coming here on vacation for a month.Yeah that's what's going on with ASEAN. I was told that by someone else entirely way back in February but again confirmed recently. I don't believe they are expecting the non-ASEAN foreigners (because they have their own way of qualifying to this since this is a 4 day event - with 3 being qualies) to be flocking to the event. That might change if there is a lot of people flying out to the event next year. The ASEAN Countries are seeded to begin with. We also don't know how many of the non-ASEAN will actually get through qualifying as it is. They did mention several times that this is the "OPEN" Cup and that was put in the name from the onset as they expected this could be a way to filter through the foreign qualifiers (both ASEAN and non) as a way to get into Sasuke Japan. Sasuke Japan's participation rate is very low though so that's one way of filtering out the foreigners, still get Sasuke experience and continue marketing Sasuke Japan as a Japanese show for the Japanese audience with a small splash of internationals. Japan at least for this event, as was broadcasted in Sasuke 29 will be sending their big guns to ASEAN this first year since a) they already promised, b) this is the 40th Anniversary of the ASEAN/Japan relationship going on this year (2013) and c) this is the first of a multi-year event and it looks good for TBS to properly support the fledgling show. Agreed on that last sentence. The noose is pretty tight on anything relating to Sasuke (especially one with that as the first name on the title) so they risk a lot of problems. Then again, there are hardcore Sasuke fans within the ANW ranks that were forced to go through ANW to get to Japan (especially in the past). This will be the first event where it will have specific consequences. For now I don't know if they have just apply or just show up. Will be interesting to monitor the situation. And bolded that edit (since i was writing this at the time you reposted that and this was thrown on page 3). This is a must.. vacation does not mean residency.

GO FOR IT MIKE! If ANW doesn't work out, go for Sasuke, THE ASEAN WAY!
Good thing the age limit is 18. I'm expecting some SMF members flying to Malaysia next year before turning 21!

This thread is pretty heart-crushing to an Australian. Seems my only option is the Asean cup, if it occurs again next year.
