Please keep ALL discussion for these episodes in their respective threads. Monday, July 15, 2013 - NBC Network8:00 PM - S05, E06 - Miami Qualifying - Part 2 Description: A qualifying round in Miami featuring the Utility Pole Slider, the Balance Bridge, the Slider Jump and the Monkey Peg. Contestants include Olympic medalist Dee Dee Trotter. This is 1 hour show. Going to be using TV Guide and winging it to get the correct dates (especially after the debacle with the zap it website).. This is Miami, Florida on NBC. Please keep this specific region on this thread only. Don't bring up other regionals into discussion here. Keep that on those threads. REMINDER: There are people who did not read the respective spoiler threads from when the competition was taped.. please do not include information from that thread here. Stick to the episode shown. Last reminders of course that all of this thread is a spoiler thread for what is shown on G4's broadcast.

Of all the regions, I'm oddly most excited to see this one. I'm curious as to how the 5th obstacle will work. (Monkey Pegs with that weird climb thing)

I think it's an alternating hands backwards climb up (like devil steps and climbing bars mixed) leading into a downwards pegboard.
The part that amuses me about it is from the pics that got posted it looks like the mount to hold the pegboard at an angle was the hinges from the Prism Tilt

Why the hell are they calling the log thing the Balance Bridge? I wonder what the real one in Denver will be called then lol.

I wonder the same thing Philip, I guess log cross was a speculation name here, would have been better... And RC, we've known that for ages, then again maybe it's more memorable to me because of this... I may or may not be thirding that request And I may or may not be sorry for how I worded this post *runs away* Are you Utility Pole Slider's archnemesis Indecisive Man?

I loves how when Drew ran they had a time to beat sign at the bottom.
I really liked that! ^_^

UGH! I guess if I did go to the trials myself for Miami, I would've been taken out big time from one of the middle obstacles. My balance is decent, but at times lately, has become a little shaky, so I'd be slow as crap on the 2 logs they had. The Slider Drop, seeing a lot of people going off the track on that one is nerve wracking, with how you have to treat it like it's the stage 2 version, not the one we'd seen from the previous tourneys in Sasuke. Finally, to do the transition from the monkey bars to the pegs...I know my arms would probably give out near that time. Time to work some more for that.

I'm sure I'm alone in this, but... I was pretty annoyed during Sean Morris's run. I usually like the guy, but I found him way too cocky this year. And him wearing headphones was even worse. To me, it seemed pretty rude, as if he didn't care about the crowd cheering him on.

Same last year at stage 1. Didn't care for it then or now.

In a way I understand getting into music helps but didn't see the point in qualifying, didn't really find it rude though. As for him doing that on stage 1 last year, that was actually pretty smart in a way (assuming he had a waterproof case ), he could time how much he has left on the clock by his music, I use songs to keep track of short bits of time often

You also have to take into account the crowd involvement is manufactured in editing a lot of the time, so the "cheering him on" may have been filmed before or after the run and he might have been running in front of some very tired people in the middle of the night who could barely keep their eyes open haha.

To me, it seemed pretty rude, as if he didn't care about the crowd cheering him on. It didn't annoy me, but is the second part of the peg obstacle (Ultimate Plank from Viking) actually easy? TBH Americans don't take the course very seriously. They are most likely there to show off! The Japanese on the other hand, take it more seriously!

I think the problem I know a few of us are having is the cocky attitudes by the ANW stars (and there are a lot of them. We have a very strong group of competitors in this country). It's a generation gap I know exists. We've been discussing this ever since Levi hit the scene and I kept losing my marbles about the showboating. I don't think unfortunately that will ever change. That's how kids grow up these days.

It's a generation gap I know exists. We've been discussing this ever since Levi hit the scene and I kept losing my marbles about the showboating. I don't think unfortunately that will ever change. That's how kids grow up these days. That's true, but it's the first time that I've noticed a competitor mix being cocky with shutting out the crowd. Being cocky and showboating, I don't like, but I can accept that they are trying to pump up the crowd and have fun. But wearing headphones and listening to music while running the course just seems like he didn't even care about the crowd watching to me. And one of the past showboaters, Flip, seems to have matured out of it at this point, making it even disappointing to see the success apparently go to Sean's head. Edit: And it isn't totally a generation gap, as I am 24 and wouldn't even think about doing anything that would screw up my chances on the course. Every second doing a trick is a second that could be added to your finish time, after all. Then again, I am not in good enough shape to run the course, so what do I know?

Honestly I feel the ANW group is mixed, yes you have the showboaters who we're getting more of with NBC spreading it more but at the same time you still get plenty of people who really understand the spirit of Sasuke.
Also I'm not sure it's as much generation gap as much as cultural difference really

I am just super envious of those that get to go on while I get shut out, so the cockiness rubs me the wrong way but I try not to hate since I know it's part jealousy lol.

To be perfectly honest with y'all, I don't really mind the cockiness/showboating because really, if they succeed they backed it up, whereas if it DIRECTLY leads to their failure I can just laugh at it

Did Patrick Cusic compete this year because he was in the southeast region last year and here is his submission video. So did they cut him
