As expected, there will be an Asean Sasuke tournament comprising of the South-east Asia countries that are being coordinated by Sasuke Malaysia. The event will be held in November. According to the articles seems 10 countries will be participating. eiga.com/news/20130227/7/news.ameba.jp/20130227-442/

This has been a couple years in the making. Surprised they are getting it together this year at all (even if it's November). Trying to get the full list of participants. I know Malaysia is running it. Singapore is a given. Thailand and Indonesia were mentioned in the article. I remember hearing rumors of Brunei last year. Still missing the names of the other 5 countries in this event.

Sounds like it could lead to another SASUKE 25 format, assuming the top participants get automatic bids to a future SASUKE competition that is.

It's not ASIAN. ASEAN stands for Association of Southeast Asian Nations. The members are Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, Brunei, Burma, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.
The event is the SASUKE ASEAN Open Cup 2013.

Possibly some good news. Shingo posted on his Facebook about this. I couldn't understand it completely, but he was very excited and said something about being a "representative." Maybe TBS planning to send him to this event? Nagano went to the Malaysia one a couple of years ago. Maybe Shingo is going to this one. Also, several of the people who commented on the post wished Shingo good luck at the next Sasuke and said that his perfect attendance record is still going. And that would make sense. Why would TBS send Shingo as a representative if they weren't going to let him compete in Sasuke anymore?

Scratch that. I asked Shingo if he was going to this, and he said no. So, I'm not sure what he was talking about.

So do you guys think this will be for Sasuke 29 or Sasuke 30? That's my question and I haven't heard anything. The fact that it's outside of the "Spring-Fall" window earlier mentioned as a possibility for Sasuke 29 this makes me think it's going to be a self contained competition like ANW where it wasn't tied to anything... yet. If anything I would put it for Sasuke 30. I want 29 to come back this year and not wait another year to see it so I'm being biased there. Eta: Since I didn't want to add another comment.. TBS put an English version with pictures in it. TBS link I'm trying to get better pics but if not I'll do my blog later on it with the micro pics.

Btw with the announcement of Sasuke 29, it is clear Sasuke 29 will serve as the Japanese qualifier for the ASEAN Open Cup.

Incoming stupid question/thought: I know of the relations with ASEAN and Japan, so it's not a big shock to me that Japan will have its own representative (being the original show helps too ), unless I'm misinterpreting. Is there any chance of the US putting its hat in? I don't expect it, it's probably not even logical, but some argument can be made if they (being NBC) really wanted to as [looking at the ASEAN wiki page] ASEAN has interacted with the US ("ASEAN Regional Forum"), not to mention the US' role in SASUKE's big international blow-up (for better or worse). Again, likely a stupid post, but something I thought of.

"OPEN".. about all I can say is that yes.. if you got the cash and you want to go there is a mechanism for you to qualify during the early qualy rounds of the tournament. Too early to tell wtf NBC will do (if anything) but as it stands now yes you can go in November if you got the cash and want to qualify. I'm sure more details will hash out later as we still have months to go but that was the initial reaction when I asked. Far more inclusive in nature for those who want to go there.

If I remember correctly, there are some Malaysia-based posters here. Can anyone shed light on if you think the upcoming Malaysian elections (the PM just dissolved parliament and the next general election is to be held no later than June 2013) will affect things like Hari Belia and through that, possibly SASUKE Malaysia? Apparently, the ruling party started up youth events to try to attract younger voters to their side.

Hmm no idea but I could ask. I admit I'm not following the politics from that region and that is DEFINITELY a very interesting question.
