Yeah Matt that is what I was thinking as well each city is it's own region, 25 from each city to Las Vegas. I wonder how many they are letting tryout in each city. You figured last year with 6 regions and 150 per region I doubt that they will have 300 run in each city in one day.

<- Rookie trying to try out this year. This is just my guess at everything.
From my observation, since I don't know any of this stuff and its just a guess, its sorta like they're expecting a low turn out (at least in SW/NW) since it was suddenly announce that they're having regions no more than a week from now.
If its the same format as last year............. Qualifying Round: Night 1 - Top 50 or 60, Second Round: Night 2 cut in half to top 25.
I almost find it impossible for them to start shooting at 8 PM with no more than a 100 runners. 6 PM or even 7 PM I see 300 going, but 8 PM and trying to hold a crowd all night? In between setting/re-setting up stuff (obstacles), random breaks the staff might have, someone getting injured and since I don't know what's the average time for a runner, I'm starting to believe that my chances of being a walk-on and trying this course is lower than 25%.
On top of that, with our bi-polar weather that's been going on (in So Cal), we chance of rain all week. Friday being one of them.
But this is just a guess.

For what it's worth, last year in Miami, the northeast ran about 125 or so from 10pm-5am with a long set break at 2 am.

Yes, the audience was still there. Although from 3-5am we had to fill in one of the far bleachers with friends & family that were standing around. So we probably lost 25% of the audience during the early morning.

You figured last year with 6 regions and 150 per region I doubt that they will have 300 run in each city in one day. Yeah, I think they ran about 150 or so in each region in the opening round last year. From like 9 am to 6 pm with the standard 90 minute union lunch break. So for a similar run time length, but at night, I would expect that many max. With perhaps 50 advancing to the semi-finals the next night. They are going to be hard pressed to run more than 150 in the opening round. So that means 150 x 4 cities...600 run slots. Roughly a third fewer than last year (150 x 6 regions). Makes me a little nervous...I have to figure that they got many more applicants this year than last year given it was on NBC twice (last summer, and these past two months with the "Best of 2012" series).

Yeah, especially with the application page still open two weeks later and what appears to be a fairly successful marathon on SyFy.

If the application page is still open, wouldn't that imply that they did not get as many submissions as they thought they would? I submitted a video, but even if I don't get a call back, I am going to try to walk-on (Thanks for the advice Matt!). We all know the dates now, so take off work, and if you don't get to walk on, at least you can watch something you're passionate about.

You can still submit an application. Idk if they stopped looking at them, but you'd think if they had enough then when you went to add an application a page would popup and say "Application Deadline for this event is EXPIRED" or something.

they aren't accepting them anymore i believe, probably because it's a 3rd part casting site that it still lets you take applications

also for the people worried about time last year the nw started at about 11:00 had a break around 1:30-2 then because of the log grip had a 2 1/2 hour delay and they still got half the people to run

25 from each region sounds like a lot... I'm wondering if they'll send the top 20 or even the top 15 and have a lot of wild card spots, considering how many big names didn't make Vegas last year. Matt Iseman said on his Twitter that they're looking for the best 100... I'm betting more wild card spots than last year.

Matt Iseman said on his Twitter that they're looking for the best 100... They should look for the best 80 and bring along the most entertaining 20. I will do my utmost to ensure my hat is entertaining!

If they are looking for the "best 100", you'd think it would not be more wildcards than last year. I agree though...for the math I figure they either advance the top 20 or 25 from each city, meaning there will probably be either 0 or 20 wildcards. I don't see them doing the "top 22" or some unusual number like that.

Well at least we know the warped wall is back. No surprises there. And are those maybe quad steps on the left?

I think those are the padding, stacks of which are everywhere around the course (for good reason)
