Okuyama was #95 in Sasuke 21, he failed the Warped Wall as well. Not sure why they didn't add that on the chart but whatever. Are we certain of that? Have we seen the footage for his run in #21?

They won't let go of Yamada (and to a lesser extent the All-Stars) because in their eyes he is their Hulk Hogan: A big name (in the world of SASUKE) who gets lots of name recognition despite not contributing anything meaningful in recent years.
Fans go for it because they are just casual fans. Part of the reason people on this board cheer for the newer stars is because their rise coincided with the rise in coverage of SASUKE on the internet and in the US. Almost no one here was watching (the original broadcasts) when Yamada was at his peak.
To continue the Hulk Hogan analogy, it takes management to make the decision to move on to someone else (cartoony era WWF vs Attitude era WWF for example) and if the decision seems to dangerous for them, they will never take the plunge completely.

They'll do that on charts like that. Why is anyone's guess. Kongu's chart from 25 ommited a couple of tournaments that we know he was at and his result, so its ommision doesn't disprove the result.

Do people like Yamada because they believe he is a top competitor or because they love the drama that surrounds his life and career in SASUKE?

Both. They love the fact that he gave up everything to train for SASUKE and for the most part they still remember the time when he was actually an elite competitor. It takes a lot for people to acknowledge that someone is washed up. *cough* Brett Favre*

See that wasn't hard! ;D But I can see why people are holding on to him as he and Kane were the 2 big names from SASUKE in early days. But it's time to move on...

The Bad: 4. A big chunk of time given to the ANW challenge in the US and the ANW competitors. Just wonder if this is a sign for the future of SASUKE. When they did the part on ANW I saw it more as them trying to show how popular they are outside of Japan. It was only around 7 minutes long and a majority of it was focused on Nagano, Yuuji, and Okuyama's experience with the fans and them running the course. The few American runs they did show I felt were just to highlight the course and the repeat competitors like Brian O. It could have been worse, they could have gone into the semi's and reality show final.

People still like Yamada, deal with it. If that's what people want, that's what they're gonna get. I love that new stars just as much as anyone else but I also love the all-stars, all of them. Yamada isn't the only "washed out" one. Akiyama has been doing just as poorly, and Bunpei hasn't even been showing up. But if any of them are ever on the show I will cheer for them as much as ever.

Man, I hope that wasn't Nagano who failed the new Giant Swing obstacle. Seeing Yamada's reaction and the clothes...it could be. Hope not though.

Them being there is not the point. The point is that they are focusing lots of time on them to the detriment of others. In these situations, it generally takes courage and/or desperation on the part of management to change their tactics.
You can cheer for them all you want but at some point everyone has to move on.

I totally agree. But will TBS and M9 move forward with a new group of competitors or end the show because the all-stars' time is up?

I saw a bit of red on the black shirt... is there a chance he could be an ANW competitor? Also the Yamada reaction doesn't mean it was Nagano... Remember in the 24 commercial Yuuji's memorable reaction to Nagano's fail was used for that Slider Jump fail guy who wasn't even broadcast...

Is that Kanno failing the Rolling Escargot? Part of me is saying it's just a guy in dark shorts, there must be loads of those, but it really looks like him. edit: Just saw that Rider posted the same thing, so it's not just me.
