As most of us know, yes, he and his brother Takamasa didn't compete in 21. We know that Shunsuke was training for the Olympics at the time for 2008 (to no avail but that's another story) so why not 21? From the looks of their calendar, the JTA (Japan Trampoline Association) is very busy in August and September. On August 29th to August 31st they held the 43rd All-Japan Intercollegiate Championships in Hokkaido. Shunsuke Nagasaki placed first in the singles and in the synchro along with longtime partner Masaki Ito: www.japan-trampoline.com/kyougi/taikaiseisekipdf/2008intercollegiates.pdfComing up on September 26th and 27th, there will be a World Cup competition in Loule, Portugal. Shunsuke will be competing in both the single and synchro events there: www.louleworldcup2008.com/ To see Shunsuke's (spelled Syunsuke in this case) name you have to go to News, Start Order (Revised), download the file, add a .zip extension to the file THEN extract the three pdfs, one is for tumbling, one the singles, one the synchro. It looks like maybe training was the culprit again? He had to train before and after the date SASUKE was held and perhaps the risk of injury was too great? Thoughts?

If that's the case ube, then that makes sense to me. Why rsik injury when you have some major competitions coming up? But I hope we see both of them in future Sasuke tournaments. Shunsuke is one of the next generation of all-stars IMO.

Well, at least this tells me one thing - we haven't seen the last of him. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the information about the Intercollegiate championships, Ube. I was scouring the East Japan championships on the JTA website to no avail. I knew about Loule, and about Nagasaki's participation in other 2008 World Cup events in Osaka, Arosa and Albacete. Unfortunately, his points did not qualify him for the World Cup final event in Togliatti, Russia this weekend. I'll be curious to see where his world ranking stands when Togliatti results are factored into a new ranking. I'm not entirely convinced he missed Sasuke 20 to train for the Olympics. Something about that doesn't sound quite right. Did Nagasaki say that, or did we hear it from SASUKE/Monster 9 ,who've been known to contrive or exagerate things for the sake of good teevee? The reason I bring it up is that the World Championships in Oct/Nov 2007 were the sole qualifier for the Olymics. The international trampoline governing body, Federation Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) issued slots to the various countries shortly afterwards (Japan got 2 slots in the men's individual event), and Nagasaki had to know his ranking was too low to go, barring injury to Ueyama or Sotomura. However, I haven't been able to find anything in the rules about provisions for team alternates, nor am I sure whether or not Nagasaki was the 3rd or 4th ranked Japanese athlete at that point. I do know there was a huge rankings gap between Japan's top two and Japan's next two. Olympic qualifying rules are here: www.acrobaticsports.com/detail.do?noArticle=2124&noCat=320&id_key=320. I read the FIG may establish an additional qualifying event before the next Olympics. From a fangirl perspective, the JTA website has a couple of great photos from last year's World Championships in Quebec City that shows Nagasaki's lighter side. I especially like "Secret Asian Man" in the hotel lobby and the team photo wearing very bright gloves.

Doesn't explain why Takamasa wasn't there... but thanks for the info.
Hope he comes back in Sasuke 22, he's been out for a year now.

Shunsuke had better come back for TBS's sake. They need him and other young competitors as time is running out on the current all-stars.

snowy, thanks for the extra info. I don't know about the whole Olympic thing. I know that according to the rules, the nation's governing body has final say over who goes so it wouldn't have been entirely impossible for them to have chosen him over Ueyama or Sotomura. The World Championships were only to issue slots to the country, right?
I think that for the sake of the show, TBS needs Shunsuke to do well at the trampoline at a national and international stage so that they can build upon their fan base ala Miyazaki.

Ube, as best I can understand, you're right. The slots are awarded to the country, not individuals, but I don't remember if Japan was awarded both slots for 1-8 rankings, or one slot for rankings 1-8 and the other for rankings 9-13 (or where the Japanese athletes were in the rankings when the slots were awarded). Or if that even matters. That noise you just heard was my brain exploding. And here I thought baton rules were Byzantine.
I agree that TBS needs Nagasaki and athletes from other disciplines to build more of a fan base. How popular is trampoline in Japan, anyway? I've learned they're a real powerhouse of the sport, which ought to tranlate into some popularity. I guess the challenge for the athletes is to not let SASUKE get in the way of their real sport. Either way, I hope we get to see both Nagasaki's again.

I have no idea about the rankings and whatnot. I only know that some countries got two slots and some only got one. I'm just a drive-by trampoline fact finder.
Judging from the amount of names that were on the lists for the various regional competitions I'd say that trampoline is gaining popularity. Then again, it's only been in the Olympics since 2004 so it can only get more popular worldwide.

Was Takamasa in these tournaments too because that would explain his absense.

Ube and Snowy I agree with Olympic Qualifyers making your brains explode.. especially when it comes to Japan. This happens in Figure Skating ALL THE TIME. Japan had additional qualifyers for each person running up to the Olympics in addition to the country qualification. They don't mess around in Japan.. they run them through the gamut to make sure they got the right team.

Rider, that's a good question. I don't know. The only thing I ever found for Takamasa was a 2005 3rd place synchro finish for an age group competition in Holland. He would have been about 15-16 then. I don't even know if he's going to university, but I believe he's old enough to have graduated high school.

From what I can gather from the JTA website, Takamasa hasn't had any results since 2006 and he didn't have very high rankings. Maybe he quit the sport? And he's 19 this year. I can believe that his parents would want him to concentrate on school. He went to a private school www.kasumi.ed.jp/ while Shunsuke went to a prefectural high school www.fujishiroshisui.ed.jp/ which would have cost them less.

Everything is explain in this thread...
Sasuke to them is a fun thing that they do love doing, but if something more important comes up, it WILL take it's place.
So as long as they don't have something important.
I.E. olympics or trampoline competition, then they'll still compete.

I have a dream! One night a week after Sept 17 and reading posts about Nagasaki, I had a dream! I was training for Sauke with my friend. Then I hopped some fences. I jumped over this one fence that led to my neighbor's garage. There was a kid I hated. We greeted and talked. He then said I have guest at my apartment. I noticed a black car on the side of my apartment. I ran home and sprinted up the stairs. And opened my door in curiosity. There a saw a man in a suite. It was Nagasaki. My mom made me greet him, my heart was pounding of joy. Then he got up crying and took me to his car, limping.(It was the same black car from his profile.) He kept crying and talked Japanese. Some how I understood what he said. We soon came on a highway and his face was covered in water. Before we entered his home in America(weird I know) He turned and said some thing in japanese than he said "SASUKE 21". - Sefa ocak a true story. So what does this all mean? Maybe he regrets missing Sasuke 21. Or why was he limping. And remember this was all a dream i had...

I believe it was the late Rick James that said, "Cocaine is a powerful drug."
Dude, even if you were pyschic, I'd find it hard to believe you...
