A 33 year old man had a stroke on the Wipeout course and died at the hospital. Full story: www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-et-wipeout13-2009nov13,0,7405796.story Needless to say, we won't be seeing Wipeout ever again. But aside that, this is really serious, and for those of you training for SASUKE, you have to take this kind of thing into consideration. We see people on the show do it with such ease, but one tiny thing goes wrong and this could happen.

Wow, that's pretty sad/scary...I feel really bad for his wife. Also, I don't think I saw anything in the story that specifically said that they would cancel Wipeout even though it's highly likely at this point. Did anyone else notice anything in it that directly said that they would end the show?

No, RC is just assuming. It never said "wipeout is being canceled". If that's what you're asking.

Wipeout is completely free and clear of any responsibilities. They've already checked with their lawyers and everything. They're fine. If they want to continue the show, they will.
That sucks. 33 is young.

Also it's not like they said 'eh' when he said had problems, they took him to the hospital after noticing the shortness of breath, plus your article seems to mention his USC accomplishments more than the actual scene. www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/TV/11/12/tom.sparks.death.wipeout/index.htmlSimpler, but answers more questions IMO. I'll be shocked if they cancel wipeout without circumstantial evidence that his attempting the course triggered it.

Even with that evidence, he signed a waiver releasing ABC of any responsibility. I'm sure they thought ahead.

They have liability waivers right? And they stopped him from running by the time he mentioned knee pain, and they they took him to a hospital and then that hospital transfered him, Plus it was a pre-existing condition that he didn't mention so theres nothing saying ABC is going to cancel Wipeout, he may have just been in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's not like The course itself caused the injuries. (and also before anyone mentions the incident pictured, two people got hurt from that show with spine injuries, those were caused by the course and not pre-existing conditions so as much as we miss Banzuke that probably was the right decision to stop it in fear of something else being too dangerous. And 5 minor injuries from the Rope Glider got it removed so they're being extra careful now)

It would've been totally different if he got killed by an obstacle. ABC would've than canceled it.
I wonder if they continued the competition afterwards, and if they're going to mention this on the show.
Regardless, R.I.P.
