Spoilers in a thread about ratings? It can happen! Anyway, the overnight numbers are in and the rating was a 14.7 HOWEVER, SASUKE won it's time slot, which, when there are multiple variety shows on at the same time, is a good thing. ALSO, The last three minutes of the show, when Urushihara was attempting the final stage got a 19.1 rating. Source: www.tbs.co.jp/hot-jyouhou/200903311836.html

What was the result for sasuke 21? Wasn't it close to 12 or something?

Yeah, 12 something. At least it's going up. I think Urushihara making the final will boost ratings for 23.

I wonder if people want a change now and are getting tired of the Sasuke 'no-stars.' We want change and having 2 new, young competitors go the furthest is a good sign.

I would imagine it has far more to do with the lack of Kinniku Banzuke and the general perception of Sasuke in the public eye than the actual results of the tournaments.

Wow that's GOOD news Thanks for sharing that Ube.. I was so worried. So at least it was a steady progression throughout the night and a lot of people saw the end. Maybe they will come back! I for one think it is a positive thing.. especially that they won their timeslot!

I think another thing that may have boosted ratings was the quickness with which the surviving competitors moved through the third stage. It wasn't like they weren't resting between obstacles, but they also weren't resting for around 2 minutes like Nagano has a tendency to do (no offense to him). IMO, watching people rest for only a small amount of time between obstacles and quickly complete their third stage run is much better than watching an individual person's run take around five minutes to complete.

Great news! Not a huge increase but I didn't expect as much. And since it is a new time slot maybe some people were confused. Maybe next year if it's in the same time slot, since we have no youngsters, this being a great tournament... the ratings should go up.
Looking good for next year =]

a lil earlier might be nice, i think ratings would have been around 15.5-17 if it was an hour or so earlier, cuz it ended at what, 11:25?

Actually it's telling that they got 19+ on a Non-Allstar ending. That is great news!

That's good news. I wish there was a way to shorten the show to two hours and still see everything we expect. Many viewers won't bother tuning in until the end when things get exciting. Not nerds like us, but I'm just sayin'.

A little earlier means going directly head to head with the beginning of other programs.
People will complain but the fact that so many known comedians were on the show helped it in my opinion. Those who say that it doesn't work in the US...well, that's the US. Japan is dominated by variety shows made up of comedians.

Those who say that it doesn't work in the US...well, that's the US. Japan is dominated by variety shows made up of comedians. The fact that it beat out the regularly scheduled variety shows is a big win and the timeslot as well. I'm happy Ken's plan worked I wonder how the fall one will be. Maybe if enough people remember enjoying this one they would be back for the fall.

That's a HUGE rating for Sasuke! Sasuke used to consistantly get 19-25 ratings so 14 is small for sasuke. BTW anyone have the tourny ratings?

SASUKE hasn't "consistantly" gotten over a nineteen since 2002.
The main point is that it WON THE TIME SLOT.
As I've noted before, Hexagon crushed SASUKE head-to-head the last two shows. Winning the time slot is a step forward.
Stop making this sound negative.
What "tourny" ratings?

Hmm it's in one of the older threads on this board.. maybe in the previous tournaments? I know Ube posted something a while back and listed what the competing competitions where as well.
ETA: Crap.. posting at the same time as Ube. He meant the list of ratings of each tournament previous to 22.

It used to get huge ratings when it was part of Kinniku Banzuke and the show was only 3 years old. The show is now in its 12th year and it is still possible to get a 19 rating? That's great news considering the All-Stars weren't at the end. The changes made my Yoshiyuki worked.
