And Ube is of course the main reason why we know anything from Japan. He's studied the intricacies of that market far longer than I have and rely on him for that sorta thing. We've had instances in network TV in this country where the station gets the money and reinvests it in new shows as a way to pay for that type of start up without the massive cost up front. Especially the unproven shows that have no advertising value yet.

When Aking says something it's so wrong you wonder what's wrong with the world for someone's brain to even work like that and think that made any sense... Just learn from your stupidity. We were all 13 and dumb too. Get over yourselves, seriously. Back on topic: G4 are using Sasuke to promote their own version of it; they hope that there will be enough interest for Nagano and such to to matter. So yeah, it doesn't matter.

The money that TBS makes off of Ninja Warrior doesn't necessarily go straight into SASUKE. They have dramas, radio programs, and movies to make plus a baseball team they've been trying to dump for a while. Well I'm happy they MAKE money from the franchise. Sucks it isn't enough for them to continue, which is actually unbelievable to me when you consider how many countries and channels have Ninja Warrior now. It's frustrating actually >_> I'll be praying for a 15% rating at Sasuke 27.

We do know they lost sponsors from the dismal ratings. They publish those quite often and TBS is last out of the main networks. While others in the country are actually showing a profit TBS is actually been working in the red for over a year now. (that's stationwide.. not just Sasuke). But we have discussed that for a while now which is why I get snippy when anyone keeps bringing this up.

Sasuke hasn't gotten a 15% in the ratings since Sasuke 19, which is around the same time Sasuke was imported to America, and else where. There must be a reason for TBS to allow Sasuke to continue airing, and I'd guess that it would be from the popularity the show has gotten world wide. NBC could further expand the popularity of the show, not only here in America, but abroad. I'm hoping TBS can take notice, and continue Sasuke despite the low ratings in Japan, hell maybe not even airing it in Japan, just record it, and distribute it. It all depends on how much money they get from distributing the show... and weather it's a profit. I assume it was profitable (Sasuke 19-24), but not anymore.

While the money made from ninja warrior might not affect Sasuke directly, it sort of does indirectly.
It helps TBS. If it helps TBS, then they can better afford to have lower rated shows on their network (Sasuke). When it comes down to it, the ratings in Japan are the most important things, and if they get TOO low Sasuke would be axed without hesitation.
However, M9 doesn't seem to want it to end, and TBS IS making money off of it even if the ratings arn't substantial.
So if Sasuke got a 9.0 it's probably more valuable still than another show that got a 9.0 simply because even though it got a low score, they still make more money off of it than the other show.
So while it's hardly a deciding factor, I do think it helps if only a little.

Problem is that's not how it works. TBS loses money whenever they air something that isn't generating advertising revenue. Only with Sasuke 25 did we dip well into the single digits. That's when the articles and whatnot of TBS dropping the show (along with others of it's kind) to save money domestically. I asked TBS DIRECTLY and they said both 25 and 25 were considered failures to TBS. Pay attention to how they are promoting 27.. they are NOT promoting in Japan. they are promoting the foreign market thus raising their bottom line when they sell it. If they acknowledge how popular it is worldwide they can control how expensive they are going to sell the new seasons to the countries. Taiwan was stuck for a while until they brought the price down for them. Remember that? This does not help decide whether to continue trying to get Sasuke to do well in Japan. It just helps them when selling the syndication license. That is all. We'll see how 27 goes but ratings alone will save it in Japan.. not what happens syndicationwise.

....... 26.. Anyway.. the point of TBS supporting ANW is good considering that ABC stole the Takeshi's castle idea directly from TBS and that's why they are in litigation still. Supporting anything tied to Sasuke is important from an international point of view but ultimately doesn't translate to advertising sales within Japan. That alone controls whether a show is canceled or not. Just as reruns of MXC or Takeshi's Castle in countries around the world didn't save it from being canceled in Japan.

But to say that Ninja Warrior doesn't effect Sasuke would be a mistake. I'm not saying Sasuke will not be canceled because of syndication... however, I do believe Sasuke would've ended at 25 had Ninja Warrior not existed. Let me put it another way. Sasuke got punched in the face (24), punched in the balls (25), and than punched in the balls again, just not as hard. (26). Ninja Warrior gave Sasuke a cup, however, to keep it alive. Will Sasuke live? No, another kick to the balls will still hurt, and possible destroy any chance of offspring. However, that cup prolonged the life of Sasuke's balls for a few more kicks. ... yep.

First off, I understand completely that good G4 ratings and viewership has no effect on Sasuke's ratings in Japan. Still, perhaps TBS sees the licensing revenue and increased international interest (whatever value that may hold) as significant enough to accept the lower ratings and the decreasing sponsorship. BTW, was Takeshi's Castle airing in other countries during its original run? If not, there's no way it could have been saved if it was already cancelled

It's like you guys aren't reading or something. We've gone over this at nauseum. Especially when the stating that Sasuke will be canceled after 27 came out. TBS gave it a chance more than Fuji did with other M9 shows. None of the other shows even exist anymore.. just Sasuke. Given that the rumor mentions this is the last one the ONLY thing that will keep it alive will be if this show has double digit ratings. What all of you are contending in this thread has to do with NBC somehow resurrecting it from it's fate.
jfeathe I see them one and the same. Just like British Idol doesn't have any bearing on ratings on American Idol and vice versa. They are 2 different shows with the same concept run by the same company.

I don't think you are reading my post either Arsenette.
I never said NBC is resurrecting Sasuke from it's fate, just that the distribution of Sasuke into many other countries has helped Sasuke. And to say that Ninja Warrior, and the syndication of Sasuke to other countries hasn't helped Sasuke at all would be wrong.

Syndication has done nothing to help the ratings in Japan or stop the advertisers from leaving the show.

Regardless, you know how cut throat the industry is... I've never heard of a case where a TV show fails, they try again, it fails, and than they try it again. And again, I've never said that syndication has done nothing to help rating in japan or stop advertisers from leaving the show. What I have said is the money TBS is making from syndication seems to be helping keep the show alive.

So no the money from syndication is doing nothing to help Sasuke stay in Japan. TBS has made promises to M9 to keep it for a certain time then decide from there. Obviously the linchpin is 27 as has been written about at nauseum. And that hasn't happened yet. Given how badly TBS is financially the likelihood of Sasuke surviving with single digits in Japan is virtually nonexistent. The money to keep producing it in Japan comes from advertising NOT from G4/NBC. G4 does NOT pay to produce teh show.. they do NOT pay for the celebrities to be invited, they do NOT pay for the set to be built (which costs several hundreds of thousands of dollars to build), G4 does NOT pay for any of it. They only pay for the licensing and that is not solely reinvested in Sasuke.. it's diluted between TBS and M9 and M9 is sinking their money on Muscle Musical and NOT Sasuke.

Hmmm... fitting... Today I find This and in the same day JPJuice already gives me a chance to use it... Also even if TBS did hypothetically manage to at least break even from licensing, theres nothing saying they'd have to use that money on another Sasuke... If Sasuke isn't popular in Japan it's not popular where it counts, And if it's not popular no companies will want to buy ad space.. And lets put it like this... If you were in charge of a television company, Which would you rather have? Two hours of something that has a small audience but generally isn't cared about OR filling in that time (For the sake of steering clear of bias lets say this isn't Sasuke...) with a few popular shows that might even be good enough to bring viewers to your channel instead of another channel... While yes we all love Sasuke and don't want it to end if it's not profitable it's not profitable, end of story...
